Default Facing a loose idiot.

I know this guy is a loose idiot - maniac. It is not unlikely that he will 4-bet preflop without premium holdings. Can the turn raise be the correct play (putting him on some kind of draw)? I figured that if I raise him on the flop he might very well raise me back with nothing. So I my plan was to raise him on the turn if it turned up blank.

Fine, but bet the river.

I think the raise is fine. I'd bet the river too, if I thought he was a true LAG maniac.

Actually, that's a good point, and there's the added benefit that this would probably drive the CO out of the hand.

I think since MP3 is just about guaranteed to bet into you again on the turn your flop and turn play is OK.

The river check is very bad though. When this type of opponent just calls you on the turn and checks the river you can be pretty damn sure your hand is good. I would actually value bet AK and maybe AQ in this case, assuming you're not exaggerating your read.

Ya, i don't like being re-raised with a mid pair against a guy that 4-bets preflop even though it might very well be a loose 4-bet. I did not want to invest any more money than a flat call down in this hand. The turn raise would likely cost me just as much as calling him down and punish him if he is on a draw. Also if he (very unlikely) would check-fold the river I earned an extra bet on the turn.

Ok, I was very unsure if a river bet was in place here. Since he called a turn raise I thought he must have something so my mid pair didnt feel like the best hand.

On the river, you are only beat by Jx, 2x, 44/JJ/QQ/KK/AA. All but the first of those hands are reraising you on the turn. I don't think you have to worry about a J here since he is a maniac, he is problem reraising the turn with one. Bet. There is a wide range of hands he'll call with here, including A high.
