I was playing the Bellagio 4/8 a couple months ago. Lots of chips were flying and everyone was having a pretty good time. The dealers were enjoying the game, the players were enjoying the game. Good times.
There were definitely either new players or players who didn't play much live poker. Mostly everyone was tipping normally. One one hand, a guy in a suit won a pretty good pot, and I noticed he stiffed the dealer. The next hand was dealt and played out. The winner flipped a blue chip to the dealer who, according to tradition, whacked it on the tray. He whacked it one extra time though. That's all. Shortly the guy in the suit woke up and remembered he'd stiffed the dealer a couple hands and flipped some blue chips over. I looked at the dealer and grinned. Perhaps it was inappropriate, but it amused the hell out of me. Regards, T |

Don't the dealer's get a partial take on the tourney fees? According to my reading up for my trip next week they do. [/ QUOTE ] Dealers never (well rarely) get a portion of this. Some (more and more)tournaments are charging a serice fee for the dealers or withholding a protion of the prize fund for the dealers. RR |

The winner flipped a blue chip to the dealer who, according to tradition, whacked it on the tray [/ QUOTE ] This is an incorrect procedure. The dealer shoudl tap the chip on the table to show the supervisor "look this is mine and I am taking it to my pocket." Hitting the rack to make noise is soliciting a tip and is to be avoided. Just out of curiosity, if tipping were eliminated from both tourney and ring game play and dealing became a salary-only job, what do you think a fair wage for a dealer would be? [/ QUOTE ] Okay, I'll try it: New dealer: $38,000/yr plus bennefits Seasoned dealer (15+ years): $59,000/yr plus bennies Sparks |

When you buy into a poker tournament there are two items to be paid. The buy-in which goes to the prize fund and the entry fee that goes to the casino. The casino will not be giving any of their money to the dealers (otehr than wages etc). Some tournaments charge a third fee for the dealers. Some tournaments wihthold part of the player's money for the dealers. If you are shy about asking if anything has been withheld see if the prizes add up to the prize pool.

They don't? Or they do? [/ QUOTE ] He's right about both. Tips almost never come out of the casino's end (your original suggestion, that they come out of tourney fees). If they're withheld, it's out of the prize pool or as an additional (almost never advertised ahead of time) fee. Martin |

Police officers, firefighters, EMTs, and teachers get around 38k starting, sometimes less. You think a casino dealer deserves that?
