are you playing limit or nl? either way, your opponents' play impacts your decision here very heavily. also, never, ever fold when checked to.

if no one shows strength I just bet until I'm raised
you'd be surprised how many times you pick it up at the flop, turn and even the river. probably works best short handed, but I still think it's better than check/folding after you showed strength preflop. you even win pots with A high in these situations. happened to me twice yesterday |

In response to his post i know where he is coming from. I will fold an AKs on the rag flop as well. in looking at my stats it was a loser before i started doing this, now dont get me wrong any possibility of flush or draw or even a pair and i chase it but to hold on with just AK?? Can some one quantify why this is a mistake? is calling one bet per round +EV?

i do own the book and assume you are refering to page 224 and it states "over cards prefer few opponents" which is rare at micro limits which average 4-8 players. So can you quantify the rule in some form?

Raise preflop.
There is something to be said for folding though. What is our hapless hero to do if he is against AA and KK and the flop is AK3, rainbow? |

In all fairness, folding AKo on a raggy flop after it's checked to you because you'll give your hand away if you bet an Ace or King that comes on the turn, is the most stupid poker-related thing I have ever heard. Thanks for the laugh |

No no absolutely true if checked we see the turn not fold but if bet is it really EV+ to see 2 more cards at BB rate to try to draw out. SSHE says it is but my stats differ. just looking for some #'s to justify the play set out by the book.
