Should I know to fold here ?
Hero $115
Villain $13 Villain just sat down about 3 hands ago and bought in for $10 in a $50 max buy-in game. He has already went all-in once and got folded to him. Hero Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] in EP MP calls button calls Villain in SB completes BB checks Flop: T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] pot=2.40 Villain bets $3 Hero calls MP folds button calls Turn : T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] pot=11.25 Villain is All-in for $10 Hero calls Button folds River: K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Should I have folded on the flop or turn ? I probably should have folded preflop. 6 players on the table here, though so it was like a 6 max game I suppose. What I hate is these small stacks buying so small and doing this. |

Re: Should I know to fold here ?
Fold pre-flop only if it's full ring. It's fine in 6-max.
You can fold the flop, it's too connected, you don't have any good redraws, and with that aggression you're probably out kicked or behind a JT two-pair. Turn: Definately fold. The only card that can save you now is a 9 and that's if your opponent doesn't have a boat already. |

Re: Should I know to fold here ?
yeah, fold pre-flop, but beyond that: why are you calling that bet on the flop again? You hit top pair on the coordinated board. You've gotta figure he'll draw at anything, so you might as well reraise him all-in on the flop. Your hand isn't getting any better and is quite likely to get worse. Let him incorrectly draw for his straight or flush after you reraise him all-in, OR fold to his flop bet.

Fold preflop, fold flop, fold turn. Otherwise perfect.

Re: Should I know to fold here ?
I almost never fold Q J o preflop. Hmmm....so I should start folding this hand ? Will it help my winrate ? I will certainly fold this if it will help my winrate. I see Q J o in pokerroom EV charts as +.03 and you want me to fold this. This is conflicting info.

Re: Should I know to fold here ?
QJo is borderline in LP (even in 6 max), marginal in EP. If you are going to play it in EP, raise it. It's ok to limp with in LP. Raising does two things, shuts out most crap like 97 preflop, and lets you get away easy if you're re-raised. If you DO limp in with it in EP, know that you're looking for a flop where both cards play (a monster hand or monster draw), not just top pair. EP play requires strength. LP play can be more successful without strength. Keep that in mind.

Re: Should I know to fold here ?
Fold pre-flop. Wait until you pickup QJo in EP next time, then fold it again. Then the next time you hold it in EP, FOLD IT! It is a miserable hand that is so likely to be dominated, playing it from EP is insane.

Re: Should I know to fold here ?
yep QJo is just barely playable after limps in LP or the blinds. maybe good for a blind steal first-in from CU or button. from EP or MP, fold every time.
a shorthand game is a different story, I'd say it's usually limpable but fold to any raise. |
