Default How do you check your hole cards?

Just an interesting little topic that came to mind. Do you look at your pocket cards sideways, regular, one at a time? Any unique methods some of you guys would like to share are welcome.

I look at them at about a 45 degree angle (left corner pointing at me) two at a time when it's my turn to act.

I turn them sideways, lift the corners and slide them apart a little bit.

I only play at tables where there is a hole in the table in front of me covered by a piece of plexiglass. There is a camera mounted facing upward to peek at my cards. I have someone watching a monitor in another room that shows my hole cards on a closed circuit network. That person then relays that information back to me by way of an earpiece that I wear disguised at a CD walkman.

Why do I go to such lengths? It's because I don't want to give away any tells while I look at my cards. I also wear giant wrap around UV sunglasses like the ones Q-tips like to wear while I am at the table. That also helps my table image as a rock that I have painstakingly cultivated.

When it's my turn to act I turn them sideways and flip back the corners with my right thumb.

At one time when I was playing a lot of live poker. I was nearing the end of a 25 hour session and noticed that my right thumb was callused and even had a little groove in it where I bend the corner of the cards up to look. The worst part was that my thumbnail was rubbed down to like a 45 degree angle. It was raw and sore for about 3 days.

this is why you mix is up.

it depends on where i am at the table. If i'm in a spot where i need to carefully protect my cards i do the sideways two handed mehtod. If i'm say in the 10 seat where i can just pick them up length wise without worrying I do.
