Re: Has anyone ever.....
[ QUOTE ]
Actually, unless the opponent is drunk or nuts, it's unusual to go beyond a 5 bet live without the nuts. [/ QUOTE ] This is loser talk! I 6-bet the second nuts once (and lost to the nuts.) But I did have a plan--I had AT and open-raised from the CO at the WS $4-8 game. EdTost (who I didn't know was like a 2+2 dude) called or 3-bet preflop (can't remember) and the flop was AAx and he bet, I called, planning on calling/betting the turn and betting/raising the river. Turn was a J, bet-call, river was a T, he bets I raise he 3-bets I 4-bet he 5-bets I 6-bet, planning on calling a 7-bet. 8-betting would be downright reckless! Had I played the flop or turn more aggressively I wouldn't be 6-betting the river, but it made a fair amount of sense at the time. |

Re: Has anyone ever.....
If you could have had you pulse monitored and your adrenaline level measured you would have found that both were maxed out maybe even higher. When we get like this our thinking stops in the normal sense of the word, our vision becomes tunneled and things slow down. Normal thought stops.
Ugly as it was think Rodney King, What happened to you happened to those policeman. High speed chase, probable bad guy may have a gun, so on and so forth. By the time they caught up with him.... They were never in that situation before and they couldn't think logically at that moment no matter what would have happened. You either.... You have the nut flush, you're getting more action than you could possibly imagine, you have the nut flush, he is raising.... Now that you have been there, done that, you and your body will react a little less violently and your brain will work a little better next time, it won't be so chemically hyped up to the point of only being capable of pure predatory instinct with no thought. It's part of the process we all go through. |

Re: Has anyone ever.....
Mike, if poker is your second job then writing should be your third. Another great answer , thanks. Also, your last advice/guidance to me has been the gift that keeps on giving. Thanks.

Re: Has anyone ever.....
Everybody experiences this atleast once if not more in there poker life. I did it once, got mesmirised by the beauty of my quad 7's and never stopped to consider the fact that it was the second nuts to quad J's. I can't even tell you how many raises I put in and to make matters worse my opponent eventually took pity on me and called. That was ten years ago I've never forgotten it and never made that mistake again. The lesson learnt far out weighs the money lost.
Just remember once that river drops and youre in the hand ask yourself 1. What is the stone cold nuts 2. What do I have relative to the nuts. It so simple, but granted it does take discipline to keep asking the question every single hand. Eventually it becomes second nature. |

Re: Has anyone ever.....
I once went all in with Quad eights. The sucker called me with Aces full of eights. Turns out nines and eights don't equal four eights. You'd think I'd start checking my hole cards a second time after that....

Re: Has anyone ever.....
Every poker player out there has lost with a great hand to a better one. My advise is to learn from the loss and move on. Dwelling on a bad beat has no postive effects on your game, and will hinder your mental game. If a loss bothers you to the point you post it on the net then you should focus more on your mental game rather than the practical aspect. Just my opinion though.

Re: Has anyone ever.....
So he made a 2-3 BB mistake in a situation that is going to come up extremely rarely. This might have a -3 x 10^-5 effect on his winrate.
Also, if the "5 bets (yup, it's the nuts)" is true, then there had better be a "7 bets (i still have the nuts and the rake is long past capped, so i'm still pushing in case you are pushing with a non-nut hand)." If I had the nuts I wouldn't stop raising until I hit the felt. Hopefully the card room would let us agree to just go all-in after a while so we don't have to re-raise back and forth 30 or 40 times. |

Re: Has anyone ever.....
In the borgata 6/12, I saw a guy go 6 or 8 bets on the river against an obvious broadway and showdown 2 pair. If you have the nuts, never stop raising, in case opponent misses something or is just an idiot.

Re: Has anyone ever.....
Bah. That's nothing compared to the time I saw a fellow heads-up on the river go 12BB's with the K-High flush against a friend. Mind you this guy was playing 20/40.
So your not stupid in comparison to most. Orange |
