Ask around mang... the web based stuff isn't going to show you most campus games. Wear a WPT hat or some sh** and someone will probably invite you to one.

hahahah, just had a great visual of the OP standing on a corner with a cardboard sign, "Will play poker for money."

[/ QUOTE ]

Bad poker books also help for getting invites. Just sit in the commons or something reading Play Poker like the Pros and you'll be in quick as a whistle. The hat thing helps too. I have a couple of ragged online poker room T-shirts that I've accumulated over the years, I wear them around campus sometimes. Wonder by the frats, they'll probably make fun of you, but you'll get into the game since they will think you're an idiot.

Is this a better resource out west? There isn't much here in Philadelphia- I got my first response a week ago after my game was listed for a month or so.

[/ QUOTE ]

My game is listed on both pokerpal.org and homepokergames. I have gotten players from both and now have a full game and have to turn people down.

If you can't find a game in your area: START ONE and post it on there! Put up a flyer near the ATM's, gyms, etc.

Hey man, I just moved from Waco about 8 months ago. When I was there I played pretty frequently with a group of guys from the law school (very juicy game). I have tried to find my contact information with no luck, so sorry about that. I also know of another pretty high stakes game that includes quite a few professionals/big business guys in Waco, but it's pretty exclusive. The point is, there are good games everywhere. The idea of carrying around a poker book on campus should score you some good leads. Keep huntin' (or just start)!!

i think the web based stuff is just not the way to go.
word of mouth. i think that's really the only way.

I couldn't have started up my game if I'd depended on word of mouth. My first five players were all from the Internet. homepokergames has supplied a LOT of my players and helped me build to the 50+ list currently active.

Sure, references are better, but it's not that easy to do. Of course, Penna has a more relaxed attitude towards it that Illinois evidently does.

Email the site owner- maybe he'll add Canadian providence pages! Now's the time to try, based on what I read on his site!

1. Why don't you start a game & invite others to play at your game?

2. See what's available at the student union. Try getting some charitable poker tournament going at school and agree to organize it for them.

3. Start a poker club at school. I'm sure there is a chess club and/or backgammon club....why not join or start a poker club?

4. If you're in the dorm, speak with the dorm folks about hosting a dorm poker game. When i was in school, the dorm folks always tried some lame dorm events so that we could meet our neighbors.

Baylor may use some lame excuse about gambling being illegal. Don't let that stop you. Just start out playing freerolls. All you're trying to do is network with other poker players.

I've had great luck with the Poker Meetup site.
I've built up my home game to 2-3 regular sessions per week, including a 2-2-4-4 NL ring game.
Here's da link:

Here's my own group:

It works really well for me- hopefully you'll have some luck with it.

"including a 2-2-4-4 NL ring game."

What is that? If you hadn't written NL, I would have thought this was a $2/4 hold'em game.

It's a 2/4 no-limit table stakes $100 max buy.
We just can't agree on what to call it...
Blinds are $1/$2. Let me know if you're visiting Cleveland; I'll save you a seat.
