Does a lack of late stage antes require any adjustments?
I have been playing a lot of tournaments at Pokerroom.com lately and I have been wondering how a lack of late stage antes should affect my play (blind stealing, limper 0wning, and short stack strategy).
The starting stack is 1500 and blinds increase every twelve minutes in the following manner (Level-Blind): I-10/20; II-15/30; III-25/50; IV-50/100; V-75/150; VI-100/200; VII-150/300; VIII-200/400; IX-300/600; X-400/800; XI-500/1,000 … XV 1,500/3000; etc. At no point are antes imposed. Is stealing blinds aggressively really worth it when 3BB only wins 1.5 BB instead of 3.75BB? What about limper owning? Again there is less $$ in the pot to begin with and people are not under as much pressure to play hands. (Obviously reads play a big role here, but in general.) Also am I really short stacked when I have 12, 10, or even 8 BB? I can last a hell of a long time waiting for a good hand. I keep thinking of the situation as 2-3 double ups to healthy stack, and 30 some hands to find it. I keep running into situations late in the tournament where I have 6-7 BB the average is 12-13 BB, but at my table I am slightly below the median stack 9BB. (Please chastise me for being weak tight if that is the case.) Help! |

Re: Does a lack of late stage antes require any adjustments?
Without antes you could safely get down to 6BB and still have some FE. Those late stage antes really do a lot to the pot odds. I'd probably just play a 3-4xBB raise from LP for a steal until I was down to 3-4 rotations, after that you better move to push/fold.
