I raise preflop and hit top set. We each have 200 bb. He leads out...
$2/$5 NL. Opponent in this hand is an action player. He has $900 and I have him covered.
Bunch of limpers, opponent min-raises from CO. I make it $50 to go from the button with Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. Min-raiser calls. Flop is Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. Opponent leads out for $50. Your move? |

Opponent in this hand is an action player. [/ QUOTE ] give him some action. make it $200-230 straight. yeah he may have J10 blah blah, but you need to protect your hand. hopefully he spiked his set as well. |

Wow, I had almost the same hand today.
A min raise, I reraise big with JJ. He calls. Flop J98. He leads, I raise, he folds As far as your hand. I think if hes an action player he'll want action with a lot of different hands but more than that, with all those draws I think you have to raise him ALOT. |

Re: I raise preflop and hit top set. We each have 200 bb. He leads out...
you've got to play it fairly fast. There are so many straight draws out there it's ridiculous plus even if he doesn't have a straight draw a J or T will definitely slow down your action and maybe even bluff you out if you try to play a small/medium pot. I test it on the flop and see if he wants to play a big pot here. If he calls 10x the blind with JT heads well that's the way the cookie crumbles.
As silly as it looks I've pushed here also and have got some atrocious calls from 1 pair, 1 pair + straight draw, 2 pairs etc. |

Re: I raise preflop and hit top set. We each have 200 bb. He leads out
raise the pot. there are few hands you can have here that wouldn't raise, so not raising would be very suspicious.

Opponent leads out for $50. Your move?
I would make a pot sized raise. |

Re: I raise preflop and hit top set. We each have 200 bb. He leads out
A pot sized raise sounds about right. You basically want to make it unprofitable for the straight and flush draws to draw out on you. Granted if he does have 10J, you're probably going to lose a big pot.
