Re: Make a move?
Folds. Shouldn't have given her the free card. You said it yourself, Checkgirl is tight and moderately weak. She's betting 1/3 of her stack. You have a pair of 8s.

Re: Make a move?
I probably should have added that I had played very few hands and showed down only premium hands.
I pushed and she folded. I showed 88 and she got very upset like she may have tossed an overpair. This play (something I never would have done a few months ago) seems to work very well in MTT's. Obviously you have to be very careful, but some people play so tight and see monsters when you push over the top that they frequently fold an unimproved hand. When she called my preflop raise I figured her for a decent but not premium pair (I doubted she would have called with suited cards except for As Ks and if she didn't have those, she might have put me on them). Factors that made me think it would work - somewhat weak opponent, my tight tale image, low card flop. No raise from her preflop led me to believe that she didn't have KK or AA. To be honest, I thought my cards were irrelevant and I think (I wonder if I would have had the cojones) I might have made this play with any two. The more I play MTT's (I am by no means a seasoned veteran) it almost seems a requirement to a decent finish that you have to make a play like this once or twice; cards don't come fast enough relative to the blinds. |
