Ive used the Joanns headliner foam and its decent, but closed cell is much better. If you want the best get neoprene, if you want some awesome stuff get volora. Both are great.

i use closed cell foam on my table because that is what was recommended by the salesman. but it is NOT what casino's use. they use a 3/8" open cell high density foam. it is much softer than the closed cell. there is a water barrier between that and the felt (made out of air bag material).

I used 2 layers of 1/4 closed cell foam (its black)
I didnt like the feel of just one layer, so I decided to add another.
It made a pretty significant difference in the bounce of the chips... however, it is nothing compared to a casino tables foam.
As someone said, they use a much softer type of foam. However, that kind of foam will wear down quicker... so unless you want to replace your foam reguraly, I would suggest using the closed cell foam.

I also just refelted the table and left the orginal felt on. This add even more 'bounce'.
I would have been a pain in the ass to try and remove te old felt anyway. A LOT of staples to remove.
