Re: ordering nexgens tonight... are 500 needed? or do 400 get the job done
I recently bought 650 of the NexGens and played with my group the other night and now wish I had gotten even more. Wasn't playing a rigid tourney structure but was doing a buy-in for a dealer's choice night. Unfortunate for me, my friends all wanted to change denominations on me from what we originally played so I was short on one color. Here was my breakdown...
225 Red - was going to be worth 5 - ended up as 10 250 Green - worth 25 125 Blue - was going to be worth 50 - ended up as 5 50 Black - worth 100 If I'd stuck with the 5,25,50,100 structure then 650 would have been plenty but the guys didn't want to play those stakes and lowered em to 5,10,25,100 - so I ended up a bit short on the 25s and had too many 5s and 10s. May switch to a 12.5, 25, 50, 100 structure or get a 5th color to throw in. Gonna save up a bit and then order another 350 to make it an even 1000 chips. |

How are your NexGens???
Hey guys,
I know I could search for this, however I figure people who own NexGens will check this post out because it concerns them so I was wondering how they really feel compared to real clay. At 500 chips for $100 I'm strongly considering a buy to replace my dice. However I may just get non custom clays from pokerchips.com for 50 cents a chip w/edge spots. Just wondering if it's worth the money to get NexGens, even if their use may be somewhat temporary. Thanks for the info --Matt |

Re: How are your NexGens???
Just from personal experience with my NexGen set - I've had em for about a month and love em. I upgraded from the cheap 8 cent diamond all plastic mold to the NexGens. The extra weight and looks work for me. True that clay chips would seem more casino like but hey, the real issue is - do they work for what you're trying to do?! For me, its having fun with the poker gang and NexGens seem to have won them over.

Re: ordering nexgens tonight... are 500 needed? or do 400 get the job done
I don't have NexGens but I'll let you know from my personal experience to get 500. I originally got 500 thinking I'd never need that many and for a while that was the case. Now I'm getting 10-15 a tourney and 500 streches thin. I just ordered another 500 because I already have plans for a 20+ tourney in March and I figured it's time to bite the bullet and go to 1000 total.
I guess my point is, while you may just need 400 today, the need for 500 may be closer than you think. |

Re: How are your NexGens???
i'll let ya know when i get them... i'll probably get clay ones sometime but when i finally spend the big cash i'd like to get custom ones and i don't have money to pay $1 a chip yet... would rather keep it in my bank roll for now
i couldn't stand the dice chips any longer however, so hopefully these are nice. |

Re: How are your NexGens???
I ordered 1,000 Nexgens the other day... at $0.20/chip, how can you go wrong? I'll let you know how they are when they get here on Tuesday... I can't stand the slickness or the sound of my 11.5g chips anymore.

Re: How are your NexGens???
I ordered 1000 Nexgens two weeks ago. My group of 18 played with them last weekend and everybody loved them, even those who had spent more money on others. They look good and they handle great.

Re: How are your NexGens???
If I have to get 3000 chips at some point for tourneys, I'd grab Nexgens in a heartbeat.
The other thing to consider if getting Nexgens in the 500 range with an eye to upgrade is the ability to move the chips out to your pals at at a slight loss to free up some cash. I've got Egyptians and TR King Custom Crowns coming my way and I take some comfort in the fact that if I don't like them I can dump 'em on Ebay. With lower end chips, I'd probably move them out to one of my friends with a cheaper set. Keep in mind that you might want to unload your custom label Nexgens before you start putting your own name on there. Something from the region or local river for the RPT will make it easier for you to slide them out to someone else who doesn't want "Bob Smith's Casino" for his own home game. |

Re: How are your NexGens???
On the topic of this thread, I'm also torn on how many to get, and I'd be happy to hear opinions. I'm trying to get a regular tournament-style game off the ground with a group of friends who have all played together casually (meaning intermittently). I know that a quality presentation for the first event will help bring 'em back for more. I've got 12 on the invite list; there's a good chance that I'll have 10 for the first tourney.
With $1,000 initial stack, starting blinds of 5/10 increasing every 20 minutes, and rebuys for the first 4 blinds levels, I think I'll need at least 750 (300 red = $5, 200 green = $25, 150 black = $100, 100 purple = $500). Might I be better off just dropping coin now for 1,000 to plan for the future? <Edit: Removed my question about where to find the Nexgens at 0.20 per chip -- found the sale at 5stardeal.com.> |
