hypothetical raise vs smoothcall
This doesn't come up that often, but I'm curious. Suppose you're playing a multiway pot (3+ opponents), and you the nut straight on a pretty bad board. If the guy on your immediate right bets, what stats (and what range of numbers) do you look at for your opponents before deciding whether to call (and go for overcalls), or to raise?
Example (_not an actual hand_): Party Poker 0.5/1 Hold'em (9 handed) converter Preflop: Hero is BB with 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. UTG calls, 1 fold, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, 3 folds, SB calls, Hero checks. Flop: (7 SB) Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (5 players) SB checks, Hero checks, UTG bets, MP1 folds, MP2 calls, SB calls, Hero calls. Turn: (5 BB) 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (4 players) SB bets, Hero ??? So as stated previously, what do you look for in UTG and MP2 to help you decide whether to raise or call? If MP1 was still around, what changes? Are there scenarios where you checkraise the flop? |
