Default Playing AK - latest thinking

At a B&M game Wednesday, a guy across the table lost with AK. He moaned, "I hate raising with that hand." The player next to him offered this advice:

"If you've been hitting the flop lately, you can raise with it. But if you've been missing the flop, you just want to limp."

Past performance of the cards predicting future outcomes is not a subject that is discussed much in the poker literature. Seems to be an opportunity to write a book there.
