I just started straddling at times to stir up the action at a table when I play short handed, and this had to be the most lucky I have ever been pre-flop. Low content, but it was so wild I just had to share it with you all.
This hand is from a pink chip game ($7.50/$15) hand I played this evening at the new Satellite Club in NYC 5 handed with Max Power, Slogger, Satelliter, and a 2+2 lurker. Hero straddles (already you can tell this is going to be a fun one), all fold to big blind who calls. I raise and then decide to look at my cards and find A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. BB 4 bets, I cap it aat 5 bets (I can do this because the straddle was live). 10.5 SB to the Flop - Flop is 6 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]6 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. BB checks, I bet, and we cap the street. 7.25 BB to the Turn - Turn is 2 (suit unimportant). Check, Bet, Call. 9.25 BB to the river - River is J(suit unimportant). Check, Bet, Call. BB shows 8Jo - 2 pair - Thats right, he 4 bet with 8Jo!!! Even heads up thats wild! Hero shows Aces up. Hero flashes a and takes the pot... |

I've got a pretty wild hand from a tournament last night that I'm pretty happy with, I was going to post it, but didn't want to start a new thread for my 'look at this hand', so I'll just use it in response to yours.
But I don't want to butt in on your glory, so I will say, that's hot. Not bad at all, not often you stradle and end up with cards like that (and opponents like that!) Although I always seem to get my best hands right before the blind. Sometimes it just seems the stars line up for ya' huh? This hand I had I'd been dealt AJo, 2 people fold, 6 stay in. Flop comes down A99, I bet $50 (blinds were $25/$50 at this point) to try and keep some interest, one person calls, the rest fold. Turn card comes down A99A, got the boat and I check it. River comes down, that's right, A99AA, I bet $100 figuring (in hindsight that was stupid, of course he's going to call $100) he raises me $200 and laughs, so I raise him all in and he's asking "You have it?" I just go about what I'm doing and he calls the all in, and I bust him out. I've seen 89TJQ straights where someone had the K and someone had the AQ, but I have never been at the table when the board shows the nut boat and someone's holding the 4th card. Unbelievable. (went on to win that tournie btw) Here's to good fortune |

Technicality: The nut boat would be aces full of Kings.

Very true, got me on that one. So 4 hands that could have beat the board, I wasn't thinking about that. Well, 5 including the A.
Turns out he did have a 9, so he was looking at the lower end of the boat until the river finished it off for him. |

[/ QUOTE ] Together we were linebackers mowing them down If every day could be that good... life would be perfect. You are correct the title sucked (falling asleep when I posted it) but the straddle r00led! TT [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] |

and what's with looking at his cards before the flop?
that's poor straddling etiquette. |

Assuming you were a winner in the game to begin with, this is the sort of thing that could make you a loser even doing it once every third opportunity, even ignoring the fact that you don't want a maniacal table image when you're playing shorthanded limit. I guess you probably saw a strong player doing in a NL game and decided it sounded like a good idea, but it's just about the stupidest play you can make in limit. If you want to do it because you think straddling is fun, go ahead, but don't pretend it's going to make you any money. scrub |
