Default new anti-spyware client

So we have seen all the different anti-spyware clients out on the net (spybot, adaware, etc). Well I found this new one. Appears Microsoft bought out a company called Sunbelt Spyware in Cali that makes an anti-spyware client. Their version is called Counterspy. Well microsoft is releasing their software under the microsoft name.

Micrsoft Anti Spyware

Quite an original name. The program is in beta form right now. This is actually better than AdAware (which I think was the best client to use). I ran this on my machine, and it found a lot of hidden registry files of several things that got installed on my box. Adaware found most of those, but never could truely wipe them out of my system. Anyways, give this program a run, see how many things it will detect on your box.

Hope this helps.

I've been using this for about three weeks. (It auto-runs every night.) I like it. I still run Ad-Aware and Spybot occasionally as secondary checks. (In those three weeks, I've never detected any spyware with any of the three programs, so I don't know whether the MS program catches much stuff the others don't or vice versa.)

I've found that it acts somewhat like a "spyware firewall", in that it tends to catch stuff upon installation. It will notify you of the event, though.

This is what used to be called Giant Anti-Spyware. I cleverly paid for a copy 1 week before Microsoft bought them and started giving it away for free.

I have used other forms of anti-spyware (e.g. Spybot) an dfound Giant to be a much more professional piece of software - and capable of detecting and removing a wider range of spyware.

My, um, friend was unable to get it to work without a validated copy. He said he needs a good CD to get it to work.

My friend told me during the installation process there is an option to click validate later. He said he ran it without issues and can even update defintions.

He thinks they may correct this when they release the full version.

No updates soon for non-genuine copies of Windows
