I think you have to be careful about folding this 200%. That remaining small percent is just so unprofitable. I always fold it 500%.

This isn't a flame war. And it's not a matter of opinion. I'm trying to help you as a poker player.

When you're in a situation like this, you should not be capping the river with a flush. It is idiotic. I'm sorry if you get offended by the harsh language of the word "idiot."

[/ QUOTE ]

I have no problem with critcism of my advice and I respect your opinion as far as the situation in this hand is concerned. I'm here to learn as much as I'm here to help others and all constructive criticism is welcome. I may be overaggressive with my river betting and this situation may warrant a call over a raise. I spend a great deal of my time playing micros and capping in situations like this has been +EV for me.

BTW calling a play I recommend idiotic is fine with me. There is a difference between saying, "that was idiotic," and "you're an idiot." I'm more than willing to concede a mistaken piece of advice in the face of well reasoned and thoughful discussion. I appreciate the fact that you're trying to help the forum and me by extension but calling me and fool then an idiot in successive posts is just rude. It felt like more than just a criticism of my advice and pissed me off. There are better ways to get you point across than pissing off the people you aspire to help. Do you see why? Yes I do. And for the record, I did mean capping was "foolish" and "idiotic" rather than "you're an idiot," and you are correct that I should have phrased it differently.

Can someone explain what the "Do you see why?" is all about? It seems like the question to ask when waving your hands about how a player should have played a hand (obviously that's not how it's being used here).

Default a challenge

As any goofball can say, "you suck, fold preflop", let's try to put some numbers on this play. Assume that the game description is correct, and we can expect several more coldcallers with a very rare 3-bet. Let's also assume that a straight or flush will be paid off handsomely, and that the hero will play his hand well postflop (a bold assumption).

How much does hero lose by making this call preflop. Hint: if your answer is > 1 BB, you are wrong.

Good luck.
Eric

It's an inside joke with 2+2 that came from David Sklansky's posts. He will ask that question to generate discussion rather than answering himself, since the reasoning is more important than the results.

But no one uses it seriously anymore.

It's also a very common phrasing in mathematical textbooks as in

Theorem: blah blah blah
Proof: blah blah blah + intersesting thought. (Do you see why?)

Since Mason Malmuth is mathematically educated, that may be the origin. I'm merely speculating.
