The lead singer of Green Day went to my high school. They played at our schools foreign foods day in 91'. I couldn't understand a word they were saying and thought to myself that these guys aren't going anywhere...

Why are we not supposed to like music that's really popular. Is this some holdover from getting made fun of for being good at math or something?

I know what you're saying, but in my case, it comes from invariably NOT liking any popular music, ever. Thus, it becomes a stupid badge of honor or something, and suddenly, BAM--you're a music snob (i.e. "Oh, please. Marilyn Manson. Right. Here, try this G.G. Allin instead," etc.)

Plus, I'm no damned good at math. The math kids used to beat me up at school for being a punk.

DISCLAIMER: That last part was a joke.

I think you should go here and check out the Holiday (live) footage (as well as live BOBD).

Everyone likes this song. Just like everyone likes Avril Lavigne's Complicated.

[/ QUOTE ]

No one has responded to this, but Complicated's a fuckin' great song.

This isn't the first confessional-type thread you've started. Are you Catholic?

for a man with Shane Macgowan as your avatar, yes...you should kick your own ass.

Now as for me...I first heard it, and thought it was pretty cool sounding - then I heard the lyrics and was substantially less impressed.

Then I heard the bastard 200 times on VH1 - now it makes me sick.

I was raised Catholic (was an altar boy, even).

In spite of my anti-Catholic bent, I continue to maintain the aspect of shame in my personality, yes.

For legal reasons, I elect to decline telling you any of the things for which I actually AM ashamed.

I really like the Green day song Boulevard of Broken Dreams.

Acknowledging I have a problem is the first step, right?

[/ QUOTE ]

Dude, I don't get what is the big deal. It's a catchy song. He has a really good voice. I've grown up with Green Day, and while some of their stuff sucks alot of it is some good poppy punk.

Do we all have to listen to indie rock that's not on the radio to be "cool"? I think it's fine to like mainstream rock.
