overcoming the rake
I posted this in the SS section, but didn't get any responses.
The rake at the 1-3 SL game at my local casino is $3 flat for all pots >=$10. Most of the time, as many as eight or nine players limp in for $1, making it unusual to drag a rake-free pot of under $10. Any suggestions, besides not playing this game!, for minimizing the effect of this flat rake? I'm thinking that drawing hands would be best, when I come from behind to with a big pot with a flush or straight, whereas hands I would need to protect aggressively would be worth less. Of course, the monster starting hands are always good regardless of the rake, since they have such a pre-flop edge, but should I avoid unsuited high cards like KJ and AT more than usual, even in late position, or would the money I'm getting from my opponents' playing trash hands compensate for this? Thanks, shiburu |

Re: overcoming the rake
If its $1-3 spread on all rounds of betting, then that rake would be very hard to beat... just find a decent 2-4 or 3-6 game.
