How would your life be different had you lost your first initial poker deposit?

I was never really close. I found 2+2 and read HEPFAP before ever playing my first hand. I put $300 into Paradise and got a $50 bonus.

I got that over $600 at .50/1 and 1/2 within a week or two. But then I had a rocky start when I moved to 2/4, losing back down to the low $200s. This was all single tabling.

I dropped back down and recovered some of it, but went right back to 2/4, still with a little less than $300 in my account. I ran that up to a real bankroll, and at some point in there I read about the 300BB guidelines, and never played that short again.

I guess if I lost the first deposit I would have tried again, and stayed at the lower limits.

Wow, someone who actually studied poker before playing.

When I was on the Party .5/1 tables I was still looking up whether or not a flush or boat was higher, and after I learned that I moved up to 1/2 6-max on a $150 bankroll!

Just spoke a litle about this in ootia...but I guess it's appropiate.

I was a donator and lost about 2k over 6 months playing above my means.

I deposited $200 into Empire on August 4th 2004 for the Max100.

I hit $X0,000 last week and cashed out half of it and paid off my debt with enough bankroll to coninue playing the 15/30.

I lost my first 7 deposits. It did make me learn a lot before playing higher limits, so I guess it changed my life?

I started playing poker with the $10 free from Pacific. I'm the type that doesn't really believe in credit cards so I had no real way of depositing to a site (I had not heard of this wonderful thing called Neteller yet). Had I lost that initial sum, I probably would have quit.
As it was, starting with the .5/.10 I lost $3 really quickly and decided that this just wasn't "real poker" and decided to move up to .25/.50. Somehow I managed to win there and get up to $60 something before I almost blew it all. I slapped some sense into myself and started with the no moving up until 300BB idea.
I almost blew it all one more time after I started taking some horrendous beats when I was playing .25/.50 on a legitimate roll and was about $6 away from being completely broke. Went back to the micros and rehabbed myself.

Had I lost that $7 at first and the $6 the other time, I probably would have just quit thinking that online poker was rigged and that nobody really won at this kind of thing. I guess it's a success story now. This month is the first time I've made more at online poker than I make at my "real" job. Kind of a milestone I guess.

Same here, think I might have lost as many as 6 or 7 $50 deposits. Then I got pissed and got a book. This was a year ago.

i started playing around april '04, and probably lost close to $2000 within a month or two. i then casinowhored to make it all back and then some, then started getting into poker bonus whoring.

i think i finally became a winning player after i deposited about $500 in september, bought poker tracker, and started working my way up from .5/1. poker tracker made me realize i was way too loose. if i hadn't bought it, i probably wouldn't be playing now.

I lost my first three hundred dollar deposits, got down to 27 on the fourth, and then started winning.

But that was yesterday, and hopefully today will be better
