This was a $50 2/table sit-n-go tournament online. Top 4 get paid. None of the play up this point was out of line from the other player. So when he check-raised me on the turn I thought of the possible hands where he would check the flop and the turn then raise me:
These are the hands that could beat me: QT, 99, 88, J8, J9, AJ, T7 I could only hope he had JQ or JT or J7?, J6?, etc.. these seem unlikely or tie with KJ but would he play one of those hands the way he did. I think it was unlikely. Yes, I had a good hand, but was it the best hand? I can't just call, either I had the best hand, or I didn't. I had to either move all-in or fold. With a check raise on the turn, I was facing another bet on the river. Was this a good laydown? *********** # 97 ************** PokerStars Game #1105791580: Tournament #4752528, Hold'em No Limit - Level VII (100/200) - 2005/01/21 - 01:17:09 (ET) Table '4752528 2' Seat #4 is the button Seat 1: tklefty (3652 in chips) Seat 2: thegr8one (2465 in chips) Seat 3: jcamby33 (4050 in chips) Seat 4: DaNutzIndian (3735 in chips) Seat 5: sapingazer (2275 in chips) Seat 6: GixxerJoe (3118 in chips) Seat 8: fisherblack (4535 in chips) Seat 9: Sterlin18 (3170 in chips) tklefty: posts the ante 25 thegr8one: posts the ante 25 jcamby33: posts the ante 25 DaNutzIndian: posts the ante 25 sapingazer: posts the ante 25 GixxerJoe: posts the ante 25 fisherblack: posts the ante 25 Sterlin18: posts the ante 25 sapingazer: posts small blind 100 GixxerJoe: posts big blind 200 *** HOLE CARDS *** Dealt to GixxerJoe [Jc Ks] fisherblack: folds Sterlin18: calls 200 tklefty: folds thegr8one: folds jcamby33: calls 200 DaNutzIndian: calls 200 sapingazer: calls 100 GixxerJoe: checks *** FLOP *** [9h Jd 8c] sapingazer: checks GixxerJoe: bets 450 Sterlin18: folds jcamby33: folds DaNutzIndian: folds sapingazer: calls 450 *** TURN *** [9h Jd 8c] [Jh] sapingazer: checks GixxerJoe: bets 450 sapingazer: raises 450 to 900 GixxerJoe: folds sapingazer collected 3000 from pot *** SUMMARY *** Total pot 3000 | Rake 0 Board [9h Jd 8c Jh] Seat 1: tklefty folded before Flop (didn't bet) Seat 2: thegr8one folded before Flop (didn't bet) Seat 3: jcamby33 folded on the Flop Seat 4: DaNutzIndian (button) folded on the Flop Seat 5: sapingazer (small blind) collected (3000) Seat 6: GixxerJoe (big blind) folded on the Turn Seat 8: fisherblack folded before Flop (didn't bet) Seat 9: Sterlin18 folded on the Flop |

Personally I would've bet more on the turn when the other Jack fell, he probably C/R you thinking you didn't have TP on the flop (You were BB you could have almost anything), so he could represent it.
He probably has a Jack with a low kicker coming in from the SB. I think a fold in this case is the wrong move, I would call and then call a reasonable bet on the river assuming it doesn't fit a straight or flush or just push on the turn after his C/R. P.S. this would go better in the Single Table Tournament forum, and use bisonbison's hand converter next time. |

By my calculation he had about 900 chips left after he raises you. You gotta move him all-in here.
He's getting desparate but since you folded now he's got your stack and you've got his And yeah, what the other guy said about tourney posts |

"I see monsters under the bed"....lol..j/k
there are SO MANY MORE options of hands that he can C/R you here with....This is a blind vs. blind scenario...and when turn brings a 2nd J....there are way to many people who just assume, "oh he can't have a J now, I'm going to raise and take this pot right now w/ my 94 so he doesn't catch up on the river w/ his overcards.." IMO, there are many people who will C/R in this spot w/ any J (pretty obvious), any 9, 8, pair, and possibly try and steal w/ basically any other 2 cards. Alot would also depend on how aggressive/passive you have been. If he has seen you laydown earlier hands to "scare" cards, he really may just be trying to push you out... Then again, he may already have a filly...but in these tourneys, and structure, there is nothing wrong with taking a stand w/ this hand. Especially considering the numerous times I see people "make a good fold", then shove all there chips in 6 hands later w/ KQ preflop... hopefully you recovered and won it anyways, --Golf |

In this situation I agree with the above statement. Move him all in. You have a set with a good kicker.

You will get a lot more and better responses if you post this in the appropriate strategy forum here.
Also, I would advise not using a poll for the response, just ask the question. Leaving it open ended is conducive to better responses. |
