Yep, raising preflop seems like a good plan to me. You have position on the SB and hopefully can push the poster out.

AT is a small-pot kinda hand, so you're not going to be happy at calls, but you take it down preflop a lot of the time.

No one has really commented on this, but did you think about a PF raise? UTG posted, so he hasa random hand, and SB completed... I'm thinking ATs is best here, and you may as well take it down now.

If UTG limped as opposed to posting I wouldn't make this play, but I think it's best in this situation.

During the actual hand, I had not noticed that UTG posted. I thought he had called. Otherwise I think this an easy raise.

So my decisions were based on him calling there, but I still think I would play it the same postflop if I knew he had posted.

At the time, I felt that it was possible for UTG to have a wide variety of holdings, most of which I beat.

QJ has me in bad shape, but I felt there a lot more hands where I am a decent favorite. A draw that wants to take the pot now, a pair plus draw, or a lower two pair.

I decided to push, as I would want to get any draw's money in now, as opposed to the river, where I might not get any of it. Or better yet, though unlikely, he could fold a hand that has odds to draw out (pair + draw).

He called, and flipped over A8 for a lower two pair.

Justice was served as the river came a blank.
