Default AQo standard play?

1st of 2 hands I am posting regarding AQo. This is a hand I am trying to improve my post flop play when I whiff. Here was a multi way hand

2/4 Ultimate bet. 10 handed. Table is loose.

Hero is MP3

UTG folds, UTG+1 calls, MP1 Calls, MP2 folds, Hero Raises (A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]), CO+1 calls, CO folds, Button calls, blinds fold, UTG+1 calls, MP1 calls

11 SB
FLOP: 2 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (5 Players)

Checked to Hero who checks???, CO+1 checks, button checks

11 SB
Turn: 6 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (5 Players)

UTG+1 checks, MP1 bets, Hero folds, CO+1 calls, Button folds

How does this look?

With four opponents and a fairly coordinated board, I think the flop check and turn fold are fine.

My thinking is that you're probably behind on the flop, you probably won't be able to fold any hands you want to anyway, and you have a weak draw to top pair (that may be reverse dominated) if you are behind. If by some chance you are ahead, I think it's still likely you'll need to improve to win. (For instance, people with gutshots could pull ahead of you by catching a straight or a pair.)

I'd bet the flop.

You would surely call on the flop if you were getting 13:1, so bet the flop yourself.

Given the way you played it, the turn fold is ok.

Why? Just because you may have odds to call doesn't mean betting is correct. I think the hand was played fine.

I feel a lot better checking or folding the turn having bet the flop. I like the information I receive having followed through on my preflop bet. I don't do it all the time, but this board is not particularly scary. Throw in an extra draw or two and I like checking more. If I were any earlier in line (earlier to act or more people behind), I'd be more inclined to check. Here, the poster is right in the middle.

Plus there's that old "my hand may be best right now and the pot is big" rhetoric. Overused and abused on this forum, for sure, but it's worth considering when... the pot is this big.

It's not written in stone, but I like betting better for this hand on this board.

I bet here and fold to a raise. I check the turn behind unimproved.

If you bet the flop, what do you think the chances of CO+1 and Button folding are?

If this is likely, you may be able to pull off a free card on the turn with your flop bet....

I'll think about this. I could very well have it backwards.
