Re: Small Stakes NL Bankroll
12 buy ins (300 at 25nl) should be more than enough if you are a winning player. I started with $50 but looking back I wish I had started with more because I was always concerned about losing my BR and it affected my play.

Re: Small Stakes NL Bankroll
I recommend 30 max buyins because winning players can still have negative down swings.
Tonight I lost 4 buyins and all of them on bad beats. For example I sit down at a table, post the blinds and get: Ad 4d. flop comes: 8d 10d 5d A player goes all-in and I call having the nut flush. Turn is Kc, and river is 9d. The player had 7d Jd to make the straight flush. |

Re: Small Stakes NL Bankroll
I started with 10 times max buy in at party...
If just starting online should try and bonus whore though...nothing wrong with getting some money in addition to what you win, or having something to fall back on when you lose |

Re: Small Stakes NL Bankroll
People always talk about recommended bankrolls on the condition you are a winning player, but I think for the person coming into the game right off the bat it's tough to know whether you are a 'winning player'. And there are all kinds of issues on top of that -- some people start playing badly when they lose half of their bankroll, some can play their roll to the felt. 10 stacks is plenty if you are evaluating your hands play by play and figuring out if you made the right move at each point, and are immune to your bankroll size as a number. Don't focus too heavily on this -- focus on your game play. Reprimand yourself when you play badly and nod when you lose to a bad beat. I was lucky -- I had someone coaching me over my shoulder who could play low-limit NL well and I existed off a 10 stack roll pretty easily. You are also lucky -- you have these forums to come find out what you did right or wrong.

I like how there are no threads in here which can't be hijacked by bad beat stories. Don't you?

Re: Small Stakes NL Bankroll
Err on the side of caution and go with 20 buy-ins minimum. It's nice to go through a hellish run of cards, take a real beating, and know you still have more than half of your bankroll left. In fact I'd say try and make it 30 buy-ins. A really awful streak doesn't hurt your confidence much with that kind of reserve.

[/ QUOTE ] That's a great point, and it's the reason why someone asking this question should probably be very conservative with his/her bankroll requirements and make sure they have a truckload for the games in question. That way if you aren't so hot at first you have cushion to get better before going broke. |

Re: Small Stakes NL Bankroll
maybe someone should start a thread telling people not to make my mistake....
lose 4 buy-ins at your usual level and try to make it back at a higher level and lose 2 more buy ins.....*sigh* |
