Default Techies: Please help me change my Party browser

Internet explorer has been causing me all kinds of problems. At this point when triggered it opens multiple "this page cannot be displayed" pages faster than I can shut them down, when it gets to about 40 the computer freezes. If there is a simple solution to that I'd appreciate it.

What I've done is (based on advice from this board) gone to Mozilla and installed Firefox. That works great for my normal browsing needs and when installing I checked the box to make Firefox my default browser.

However, when Party launches a browser (like in "my account" or "deposit" areas) it still launches internet explorer. Is there a way I can direct it to use Firefox.

TIA for any helpful tips.

Oh, and please use small words, I am no computer wizard in case you haven't already figured that out.

It should have asked you to make it the default browser when you first installed it. I think that would solve your problem.

Start at the Tools menu between the Bookmarks and Help menus.
Go to [TOOLS]->[OPTIONS]->[GENERAL]

You will see a section labeled "Default Browser"
Check the box and click "Check Now"

I'm pretty sure this solves your problem.

Actually, it is hard coded into Party and skins to use IE regardless of what your default browser is. Nothing that can be done other than bugging Party about it as far as I know.

Hmm.. I had no idea.

That's rather unecessary for them to do that. I don't like it.

To the OP:
Disregard my entire first post. [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

Are you really sure about this? I can imagine that they have the IE control built in for using browser functionality within the party client (the top part of the lobby; the popup windows when logging in), but when opening up web pages outside the client, I can't imagine they strapped it to IE...

Installing a new browser and setting it to default should work, I would like to think.

I've had the same problem ever since I've had Firefox. It is set as my default browser but IE still seems to pop up when you do certain things through Party.

If anyone has a fix for this I would love to know it myself.

I'm guessing that they launch the browser by running "iexplore.exe http://www.partypoker.com" as a shell command.

I just opened an account at Empire this week and was having similar problems except that the pages wouldn't load with IE due to my security settings for IE.

My solution, not the greatest but it works:

When I clicked on something within the Empire software and it tried to open a page with IE I copied the address from the IE address box and pasted it into the address box on Firefox and it loaded fine. Then I saved these sites as Favorites in Firefox. Now when I want to go to one of those sites (bonus status for instance) I open the site from within Firefox instead of through the Empire software.

Thanks. I might try this because IE is unusable for me right now.

Thanks to the rest of you for all your info too.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to remedy my IE multiple screens/freezing problem?
