What's the play here?

As many of you who follow Daniel Negraneau could probably remember that he played a similar hand with Annie Duke recently at the Plaza. Do you think his play is optimal in a much less experienced field?

Fold pre-flop instead of raising out of position, and then calling a re-raise.

yes. folding would be more like the pros. thinking that you're playing like daniel n is no different than all those other fish out there playing cheese b/c they're suited. it's a bad play. and calling the reraise is horrible. and playing aggressively or calling a bet after the flop is disastrous. and if you make your hand it's tragic, b/c you're gonna think that you made a smart play and bust out 7 hands later.

just my opinion.

The only similarity to the Plaza hand was that you and Daniel both hold two cards. The simple fact that you think they are even remotely similar makes any analysis here a waste of time.

I have to agree, you've opened raised with garbage in early position and gotten min re-raised from late position. I would have just folded pre flop. All right, now that you're here lets look at the situation:
Rocflight 3150
groovygulf 1400
pot 1250
Now the question I would ask myself is do I want to play this pot for his last 1400? If so, then I would just set him all in. Hopefully he has AK or AQ and will lay it down. You are actually a small favorite over 2 overcards. If there were 2 diamonds on board I would for sure play it this way. If he has an overpair two dimes shows he is a 63% favorite to win the hand. You are not getting the correct price to call or bet the 1400 if he has the over pair.
If you don't want to play for his last 1400 then you should check and hope he checks behind. In this case you can call if he under bets the pot, say betting something between 100 and 300.
Just my .02.

calling the reraise is a no brainer given the price that he's getting. (the initial raise was a little squirley)

really? After the preflop disaster, this is a relatively easy flop to play. You can semibluff. You can check and call a bet if you have odds (and implied odds). In short, you can play poker. Don't let early mistakes make you make worse mistakes later on in the hand.
