If he had KK, he'd be three-betting.

I don't think this is necessarily true, lots of players just go into call down mode after getting check/raised on the turn with an overpair.

the more I look at the hand, the closer in my head it is from calling or 3-betting. I still think I lean towards calling because I think the villain has KK most of the time here. The real questions might be, does villain have AA or AK often enough to make 3-betting profitable.

I think assuming your opponent hit a 22-1 shot because he shows a little extra aggression on the river in a blind-steal hand is a bad idea. Go one more bet. Sure, it's quite possible you got rivered ... But I think the times your opponent shows down a worse hand will make up for it.

One more bet.

This line may have just led me to believe that raising is the correct play.

I say 3-bet. Your opponent has KQ.

Default Raiasing with little pockets

I used to be totally anti-raising with small pocket pairs. However, after playing a lot more 6max tables, I've started to try raising with these in a folded pot in middle to later position. This is my logic: If I limp, I am facing maybe 2, 3 or 4 callers. This means I almost certainly have to hit my set to win. With a 12% chance of hitting the set, 2 or 3 callers seems like a disaster, as opposed to raising and 1) either stealing or 2) getting heads up, which is the most likely result of late raise (BB calling), and betting out on the flop, hopefully inducing a fold if the heads up person does not hit a pair (winning the blinds + another bet ~50% of time, and maybe a turn bet, + times I hit a set or wacky straight.) Net/Net 44-88 I don't think the raise is a bad move at all if it is an opening from cut-off or one right of cut-off...

If you think he'd play AK this way, I'd lean towards 3-betting.

I think I'd play AK that way.

Not knowing anything about the opponent, I'm inclined to be cautious. Very few people can raise on the river with a simple pair after an obvious slowplay raise. If I know him to be an action player, though, I give him a jingle.
