One of my favorite cartoons says it all.

Two sets of Grafitti on the wall
One says "God is dead - Nietzsche"
The other says "Nietzsche is dead - God"

Which one do you believe?

So your personal belief system tells you that if you cannot prove something then you are 100% sure of its falsity? That's an odd belief system.

[/ QUOTE ]

You have, probably innocently, misrepresented my statement. I wrote "My personal belief system is based on what can be proven to me to my required level of satisfaction."

It was the simplist way to explain why I do not believe "God" exists other than in the minds of men.

An example to show the difference between what you understood and what I meant follows:

I do believe that man walked on the moon though I have nveer been there and will never go (unless God so chooses to transport me there in order to prove his existance). So it does not take an overwhelming amount of proof for me to believe something either does or does not exist. Only some reasonable (to me) amount of evidence that does not break any other rules I happen to believe either to be true or false.

I hope this more detailed explanation makes more sense.

It does help describe it more and I appreciated the discussion. What I still don't get is how even the absence of a low threshhold of proof can lead you to a belief that you are "100% certain that God does not exist."

[/ QUOTE ] this for some reason reminds me of something in SSHE. On one of the pages Ed says something like "most authors tell you to fold even if you are sure your beat, but you can never be absolutely positive" or something like that. I prolly butchered it, but I think its appicable to this discussion.

I would be interested in hearing from the 1/1000 people.

By assuming the positive and then showing a contradiction. Done all the time in mathematical systems.

Thank you very much AC. Would you mind helping me with an example method of proving there is no God when the only real evidence consists of fables, parables and personal beliefs. I have discounted the Shroud of Turin although that avenue might deserve some deeper exploration.

[/ QUOTE ] I think science may some day prove there is some sort of force in our universe, whether or not you would scientifically call that God, I don't know. I really cannot provide you with some examples, so I am sorry.

The best I can offer is to answer your question with a question. Are you 100% sure the Easter Bunny does not exist? Are you 100% sure Santa Claus does not exist (as propagated by current legend)? If you are I do not see any difference from me being 100% sure God does not exist.

If you are not 100% sure then all that proves is that your personal threshold for evidence is greater than mine not that any of these entities either do or do not exist.

Don't misunderstand as an American I believe in everyone's right to believe in God or not.
