Online VS Brick and Mortar
I started playing online in either August or September, starting with the smallest limit and no limit games on Party Poker. I played with consistant success and moved up in limits to the 200 NL and finally to $15/$30. I was at a total of +1500 online when I played this one guy online. I took about $3000 from him overnight playing head up 15/30, and got my bankroll up to $6000 by the morning. The next day, I played for about an hour and was up about $1000. I lost about $200 of that, then decided I needed to get it back. Long story short, I blew the rest of the bankroll over the next two weeks on $200 tournaments and at $15/$30. I definitely learned my lesson in bankroll management, but I also had some horrid, unrealistic beats. For example I lost a $700 pot with pocket aces after flopping the nut full house, 10A10, to four tens. This at a four handed $15/$30 table. My bankroll progressed steadily downward, through a combination of this sort of luck, along with some of my own tilt I'm sure that was a result. As it stands I haven't played online in about a month, I finally quit down $500. I've started playing live at the local card clubs and casinos, and I'm doing well at the limit games. I'm up a little over $900 in the past couple of weeks with my play starting at 1/2, 2/4, and 3/6 my first few sessions, to the last few, at 6/12. 6/12 has been kind to me, one session I won almost $500 in just over an hour and a half. So my question is this: Do I continue to play live games, and stay away from the internet forever, or do I need to get my game back online in order to truly become a profitable and winning poker player. Thanks,
Wes |

Re: Online VS Brick and Mortar
You need to learn a lot more about BR management to become a winning player. Do you see why?

Re: Online VS Brick and Mortar
If you think you can handle playing online with proper bankroll management (15/30 with a 1500 bankroll is the very same thing as suicide, as I'm sure you know, especially when it's shorthanded/headsup) I think you should. You play so many more hands online, so I think it's better than B&M play for a large majority of poker players.
If not you are better off playing live, since you very likely will go broke if you play above comfort levels/bankroll requirements. Good luck. |

I lost about $200 of that, then decided I needed to get it back. [/ QUOTE ] To me this is the key sentence. You need to change your approach to the game completely. You're looking at booking wins, instead of at your hourly rate. Any sort of loss is unacceptable to you so you blow your whole bankroll trying to "get back" that $200. BR management is vital, and as the other poster said, playing 15/30 with a $1500 bankroll is utter suicide. |

Re: Online VS Brick and Mortar
Looks like I'll be getting back on Party, albeit on either 3/6 or 5/10. Thanks.

Re: Online VS Brick and Mortar
Just a tip for ya Wes.
Start at an even lower limit unless your properly Bankrolled (300 BBs or more). I;ve always been successful at the 5-10 games in the Taj and have seen some success online. However without a 300 BB BR it was only a matter of time before I was on the losing end. Now I;ve started at the very bottom and am progressing up. Just think, at your hishest point you really only had a proper BR for 2/4 so starting out at 5/10 now would be risky. Either way, good luck. |

Re: Online VS Brick and Mortar
I currently play on Party Poker, where do I go to find rakeback bonuses?
