Default 5/10, 10/20 Buy-in?

Pretty straightforward question here. I'm going to play 5/10 or 10/20 for the first time in a B&M and would like to know what a standard buy-in would be for these limits. Any suggestions? Thanks.

$250 and $500, respectively.

Here in LA many people buy in for a rack of chips -- $200 in our $2 chip $6/$12 and $500 in our $5 chip $10/$20, or $15/$30.

You can quickly see what others have bought in for when you show up, but I think these should be good general guides.

It doesn't get a whole lot of respect here (at 2+2), but I kind of like Howard Lederer's/Annie Duke's 30 Big Bets rule as some kind of "stop loss" theory -- that is, after I have lost 30 big bets, I am willing to say, "It's just not my day" or "Maybe I am not the favorite I thought I was in this game."

Please do not take this as a SMART ASS reply ------

in these two games you are playing I would buy in for 500 ----BUT ONLY IF THAT IS WAHT YOU CAN AFFORD TO GIVE UP IN ONE SESSION --------if not then start both games at 250 to 300 --- this will give you enough time to sit in the game -- get a feel for it then decide if you need more --- if you are here in Vegas you can add $100 bills anytime to your chip stack ----- PLAY ON

20-25 big bets is the norm. I go with 25 myself.

I don't know whether to be happy for you that you think (and probably rightfully so) that you're ready for the FW 20 game, or upset that the game will now become a tad tougher.

I buy-in for 2 racks of red and that is usually the biggest buy-in at the table, since a lot of folks buy-in for a rack and some for $800. And for heavens sakes, even if you want to buy in for more, get it all in red and leave out the green as it will make your stack look more intimidating. If you buy in for 3 or 4 racks, some of the regular weak-tighties will probably make some sort of comment. You can reply, "I suck, so I'll need it." I did that at first, but no one makes any comments now.
