Default Going to the wall with a \"BB special\"...

I'm playing in an online 1/2 6 max. game that is temporarily four-handed. Both EP and SB seem like decent players. The only reason I haven't left this table is that the Button is a weak, loose-passive. I'm in the BB and am dealt 9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].

EP limps, Buttons calls, SB completes, I check (4SB)

9 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 6 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

SB checks, I bet, EP raises, Button coldcalls, SB folds, I three-bet, EP caps, Button calls two more, I call (16 SB).

(9 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 6 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]) T [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

I bet, EP raises, Button coldcalls, I three-bet, EP caps, Button calls two more, I call (20BB).

(9 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 6 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] T [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]) 2 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

I bet, EP raises, Button folds, I three-bet, EP caps, I call (28BB).

Was I being reckless here? Or should I have considered that my seemingly decent opponent had me beaten here?

With the action I would think that EP hit a set. He limped in EP so it seems likely he could hold 66. If the agression kept up on the turn I might slow it down a little on the river.

My line:

Flop: same

Turn: check raise him to see if he was just +EV flush pumping, or he really does have a strong hand. If 3-bet call.

River: check/call

Even with a SH scenario I think you have to respect his caps on the flop & turn. You're not going this hard unless you have a set in many circumstances.

So you totally discount the possibility that he has 87s?

You know exactly what the button has. Flop good and I don't even have any real issues with the turn. When he caps that, I don't think I'm putting in any more bets on the river. I would just check/call.

Other line I might take is check-raising the turn and calling a 3-bet.

I wouldn't 3-bet the turn. When he raises the turn I give him credit for a set and take it to showdown cheaply without improvement.

Given that there's 1 way for him to have 8c7c and 8 ways to have flopped a set, I would basically be discounting this, yes.

Actually, there are four ways for him to have 87 suited (for the OESD) and only five ways for him to have flopped a set.

Default Results:

Opponent did have 6 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 6 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]...although I think that some of you who were "positive" he had a set may have been influenced by the action on the river. Indeed, whereas I do believe I went to far, I think that just checkcalling the river with a boat is too weak. Consequently, I think that betting out on the river, but just calling the raise, would have been the right amount of aggression.
