I think this thread should be a poll. Therefore, I'm going to make a poll based on this thread.

Anchorman was awful, both as a movie and as pure comedy. Random humor ("Where'd you get your suit, the toilet store?") is extremely lame. Best movie of 2004 was Kill Bill Vol. 2.

Oh [censored] I can't believe I forgot this one, and I can't believe it wasn't mentioned yet. Great call and I agree.

I thought Kill Bill v. 2.0 sucked. Also, while I wouldn't say it was the 'greatest' movie of 2004, I think Collateral deserves honerable mention. I'm just a pretty big fan of Michael Mann.

how did you forget about man on the moon when you kept saying the name "kaufman"?

Different Kaufman, but yeah, point taken. I had just watched Man on the Moon within the last couple months too.

Although I have a feeling women are responsible for 99.9% of those rentals.

Yeah, I definitely don't doubt women are responsible for quite a few of those. My point was that the general American public is a pretty crappy judge of how good a film is. Titanic broke records for gross. Spiderman broke records for gross. Spiderman 2 broke records for gross. None of those were good films. Spiderman in particular had probably the biggest "how much did this movie gross" to "how well written was this movie's dialogue" ratio EVER.

Is it wierd that City of God is not even remotely ringing a bell for me?

Not really. It's a Brazilian film, released as subtitled in the US. Most people have never heard of it and never will hear of it. It's an incredible film though. Go find it and buy it.
