Default Gambling Theory and Other Topics

I am considering buying this book.

Any opinions?

Is there an update in the works - the last edition appears to be 1994?

Thanks

Hi Flashy:

I happen to like it. The current edition is 2004 not 1994.

Best wishes,
Mason

Hi!
I have not read this book ( but planing to do it ) so I do not know if the book is good but there is a review here :

http://www.jetcafe.org/~npc/reviews/gambling/

Sounds good

Have anyone ever thought how easy a question about a book can die if the author answer! Who want to criticize the book when the author reads it

In this case, I'm sure the author can take it.

In my opinion, this book should be read by anyone who is more than a casual gambler. A fair portion of whatever I know about applying statistical thinking to gambling came from this book.

I'm not the author of the book, but I am the author of the review. ;-) I think this is an excellent book. A significant portion of the material here is groundbreaking. All serious gamblers should read it. I think it's the best thing Mason has authored solo.

It is worth purchasing. However, I thought it a mixed bag. It provides a deeper understanding of the concepts underlying poker but it does not tell you how to play x in the situation y.

Just curious, is there any book that you have written that you don't like?

Anyway, this is a very, very good book. Any serious poker player and/or gambler should have read it several times over.

The SD and variance info should be required knowledge for any semi-serious poker player or advantage gambler.

Some of the tournament info is interesting as well.

I have recommended this book in several threads...usually when responding to someone who doesn't seem to understand that losing 10BB in an 8-hour session is NOT a big deal.

Some of the stuff wasn't very interesting to me like the J's or better section...but this might just be the 1994 version) or the Calif vs. LV essay (again....this might be just the 1994 section) but there is enough good stuff in there to make it an important read.

By the way - this website lists 1994 as the last edition - hence the confusion.
