Default True Poker BS

Below is the email sent to me by True Poker. I signed up with them (about 1 week ago) through an affiliate so I could get rakeback. I already have accounts at UB, Empire and Poker Stars, but when I signed up at those sites I did not know that such a thing as rake back existed, so I opened an account at True Poker. My affiliate sponser said he did not receive notice I signed up. I emailed True Poker and asked them why he had not been notified and they then froze my account. The wanted my driver's license number and last 4 of my SSN or copies of bills or govt IDs. I really think this is BS. No other site has done this crap. I asked them to refund my money back to my firepay account, but I suspect they will keep it. I do not intend to give up any more personal info. I believe their business will fail.

Dear Toffler,

Please be advised that TruePoker runs all player accounts whom attempt to make
a new deposit, through a verification process to protect customers and
ourselves from unauthorized charges. As part of that process, TruePoker limits
initial buy-ins on deposits via Credit Card / FirePay and PrePaidATM and
reviews account information before allowing further account activity, this
review is usually done in less then 24 hours of your initial deposit.

This process is something to which only TruePoker is using. We have this system
in place to prevent fraudulent use of deposits on our site, and to protect
players as well. Since implementing this system TruePoker's fraud has drop
significantly to such a level we are surprised other sites have not implement
similar system, perhaps they are not as concerned with security as much as
TruePoker is.

If TruePoker is unable to verify independently certain address related
information, further activity is not allowed. A customer whose address
information cannot be verified is asked to supply TruePoker with some further
information so an identity and account usage can be established.

Unfortunately, certain information related to your address could not be
verified.

Accordingly, please provide one or more of the following items, which we can
cross-check against available third party information resources:

If you are a North American resident:

Provide us with the last 4 (four) numbers of your social security card and / or
a copy of your Drivers License, faxed to 001-506-288-5093 from Europe
011-506-288-5093 from USA and Canada OR email your US Drivers license number /
Social Security cards last 4 digits to support@truepoker.com .

A copy of government identification, which shows your name, address and
signature (fax to 001-506-288-5093 from Europe 011-506-288-5093 from USA and
Canada), PLUS please sign the fax, or scan and email to support@truepoker.com
.

Fax or scan a copy of a utility bill, such as a power or phone bill, something
which shows both your name and address, any other important information maybe
removed / scratched out.

If you live out side of North America:

Fax or scan a copy of your Drivers License, fax to 001-506-288-5093 from Europe
011-506-288-5093 from USA and Canada or email a scanned unaltered image to
support@truepoker.com.

A copy of government identification, which shows your name, address and
signature (fax to 001-506-288-5093 from Europe 011-506-288-5093 from USA and
Canada), PLUS please sign the fax, or email a scanned image to
support@truepoker.com.

Fax or scan a copy of a utility bill, such as a power or phone bill, something
which shows both your name and address, any other important information maybe
removed / scratched out.

As an alternative to processing credit card charges directly, you may want to
consider using NETeller (www.Neteller.com ) services, as there is not daily
limit as well cash outs are processed within a 48 hour or less period.

The check is not a credit check, but is simply a check used to verify your
actual home address associated with your account to make sure that the address
does match and exist.

We do understand some peoples reluctance to want to provide further information
as we are the only site which asks for this, but we only use the information to
verify the address, and nothing else, once we verify the account, never again
are you asked for any further information to verify your account, even if you
create a new account on our site.

If you still do not wish to provide us with the required information, such as
the last 4 digits of your Social Security number, or your driver licenses
number emailed to us, or a faxed document, please let us know.

If you have any further questions regarding our verification process, please do
not hesitate to ask and we will be happy to provide you with more information.

Thank you for your understanding of this security measure.

I believe their business will fail.

not gonna happen.

in my book, they get points for catching you. YES, catching you.

i know hundreds of people who play there for years and have never seen an account locked in a situation like this. your refusal to proceed with identity verification tells me you did something wrong.

don't go into a lecture about refusing to give them proof of your identity because of some moral shiit. you refuse because you can't prove it.

if you can, and you are worried about true poker stealing your identity or misusing your info, you are nuts. it is safer to give THEM your info than a rep. at a cell phone store, used car lot etc.

the ceo of true is an attorney, true has been around forever. you can trust them not to do anything smarmy (hold the smarmy lawyer jokes).

my advice to you is if you tried to set up a dummy account to take advantage of rakeback, come clean. they will likely give you your deposit back, but tell you to hit the road.

PLEASE PEOPLE! don't be greedy. setting up dummy accounts will just kill future bonuses and make life harder for the honest players down the road.

I have not set up a dummy account anywhere. I have one account on True Poker and have played there only since 11/29/2004. If they intend to freeze accounts without more information such as driver's licences and SSN they should ask for it up front.

I would much rather have gotten rake back at UB or Empire but I did not set up a dummy account at either site. I even emailed UB to ask if I could be attached with an affiliate, they said no and I accepted that answer. I don't have any moral objection to providing more info. I do have a common sense objection to providing too much info over the net to anyone.
