Two 12/24 hands @ CA Grand
Just came off a very frustrating 12/24 session at California Grand Casino.
We are 4-handed, the LAG is on my right, the LP is two to the right and the tight/solid player on my left. Hand 1: I have been playing solid TAG poker up until now and most of the table appears to respect my play. I am in BB Everyone folds to LAG in SB who limps. I make a comment about him always wanting to play with me (which I wish I'd never made) and he replies with a grunt. He is stuck at least 3 racks (of 3 dollar lime chips). I look down at QT of spades and raise. LAG calls. Flop is Ks 3d 4d LAG bets, I call Turn: 10d LAG bets, I raise, LAG reraises, me? I ended up folding and LAG showed a bluff, so now the whole table was taking shots at me. A few rounds later, I open for a raise UTG with 66 Solid player cold calls on button SB folds LAG calls in BB Flop is 10d 9 h 4d LAG checks, I bet, button raises, I think for a while and call Tur is Ah I check, button bets, now I smell weakness and pop it. Button calls River is 5h I bet, button raises, me?? I know I overplayed my hand early, but I couldn't help but suspect that button was on a steal after the last bluff working...or maybe I was just on tilt. Please, help. I thought my short game was great until last night when it seemed like everybody and their mom was beating up on me! |

oh didnt see it was 4handed, sorry bout that. in that case, i probably would have been inclined to fold the QT also. I would have folded the 66 after being raised immediately. Were you catching people bluffing at you repeatedly or is it all in your head? There is clearly nothing you beat with 66 here unless hes gone out of his way to bluff you off your very weak hand.

Why can't they just spread 10/20 or 15/30?
Do they have $3 chips for this game? |

Results..
I did muck on the river. The other player gave a look of shear relief and quickly scooped up his chips. We'll never know, but rethinking this one, I'm just not sure why he would raise me on the river and not on the turn. I guess he could have made a runner runner flush, but what other hand could he have that would not have 3-bet me on the turn (even if he thought I was semi-bluffing, he must have seen all the draws on the turn that he would want to punish if he had something like AT or 44). In retrospect, I think he has a busted draw more often than 1 out of 12 times here (pot was 12 BB after his raise). I still would like to hear more about my flop and turn play for hand 2.

Re: Two 12/24 hands @ CA Grand
Yeah...It's a new thing out here in bay area...smallish clubs with 6/12 games often spread 12/24 as their highest limit in an effort to keep the other games full. I really like it, as the 4-chip games often give the illusion of action and therefore its nearly ALWAYS given. Also the ability to buy a 300 dollar rack instead of a 500 dollar rack seems to encourage weaker players with smallish bankrolls to join in on the fun.

Re: Two 12/24 hands @ CA Grand
i do believe that there is more action in games when you use smaller denomination of chips, but i think it slows the game up and its really annoying for me to count out the chips every time i bet.

[/ QUOTE ] No Clue. It's the same as 4-8, or 20-40. just different colors. How can it slow the games up? California KNOWS poker. One must remember, California has poker rooms legally for over 100 years. Most places could take lessons from California rooms. The 9-18 games using $3 chips are TWICE as big as 10-20 using red birds. It has been proven many times over, the visual of more chips creates action. This in turn keeps the games lasting longer too. Know what is usually the first game to break down in the room I work in during graveyard hours? 10-20. Almost always. 2 chip-4 chip. |
