Using Odds in a Tournament
I have a question about how you folks use pot odds to determine your play in tournaments.
This is the type of situation I’m asking about. It your play and you have to call a bet. The pot is giving you lets say 5 to 1 odds and the odds of making what will be best hand (say a nut straight or flush) is about 4 to 1. The problem is if you miss you will either be knocked out or severely cripple by the bet. Do you make the play or wait for a better situation where you have better odds? I’m assuming no re-buy in at this point. |

Re: Using Odds in a Tournament
Unless you are very close to or already in the money this is a clear call. There have been a ton of posts on this recently, use the search function both here and in the WPT forum. Paul Phillips has argued long, and loud about Cash EV=Chip EV.

Re: Using Odds in a Tournament
Most times, I agree that a call is the right thing to do. However, if I feel that I am significantly better than the other people at the table, I would fold.

Re: Using Odds in a Tournament
Exactly while I agree that for Paul Phillips the correct play might be auto call anything with even ,arginal +EV Im not sure this little law of poker nature is true for everyone in every tourney facing every chip stack site against every field. I ll just leave at that bc we always end up having a huge doneybrook about it and nothing ever gets solved due to my obstinence...
