I'm in an loose $0.25/$0.50 ring game on stars, dealt JJ one off the button. Practically the whole table limps so I play decide to limp to play the jacks for set value, but when my pair is an overpair to the pair I raise very aggressively to protect my hand. Did I go overboard postflop or should I have raised preflop?

Raise those jacks preflop.
Postflop play is fine. |

dont minraise ever [/ QUOTE ] Amen to that-- I can't think of a single time when minraising in a cash game at these stakes is a good idea. |

Raise preflop. You almost certainly have the best hand. And it's easy to get away from on a bad flop.
Postflop make real raises, not that crappy 1/6 pot stuff. |

dont minraise ever [/ QUOTE ]Oh, come on - no need to be so melodramatic. In the right spots, it's a great play. I can think of a many times when you can min-raise successfully. The min-raise here, though, was not one of those times... I am always wary of anyone who tells you that doing "x" *ever* is a bad thing... |

Oh yeah, I was reading fast and didn't notice the minraise. Good point. Minraises should be used extremely sparingly. I do use them occasionally, but this is not such an occasion.
