Tips on starting all over
i posted this on rgp and figured i would post it here for helpful tips.
I am 23 years old, been playing poker for about 2 years. It has been my job for the past 8 months. In that time i turned $1000 into $9000 and that is not counting the money i have taken out for rent, car payments and other bills. the other day my house was broken into and my entire bankroll was stolen along with electronics, dvd's and cd's. have any of you gone broke and what did you do to start back up again. i'm figuring i'll get some dumb ass job for a little while. anything i would have sold was stolen. ugh. people suck. |

Re: Tips on starting all over
You might want to look into getting renters insurance. If someone breaks into my house, I get a big fat check for everything that was stolen, and I would use that to keep playing.

Get insurance!
Play online. Always a good game going, lower rake and you can start out with a $10 bankroll if you are strapped for starter capital. |

Re: Tips on starting all over
Most renter's insurance does not cover cash, or covers a set and very small amount. To cover a large amount of cash you would have to pay an exorbiant premium.

Re: Tips on starting all over
Sorry to hear it. I know you need cash for the game. But, keeping all your cash around the apartment is a horrible idea. If you won't get a bank account at least consider a saftey deposit box.

Go to the internet forum.
Look for a thread by Homer for newbies trying to build a bankroll (or something to that effect). He goes over the different bonuses that are available at different sites, and how to maximize your returns. You can amass a few thousand dollars just through bonuses within a few months. |

Re: Tips on starting all over
Good point. Make sure you do refer-a-friend (You'll get $25-$100 each time you do). Also, every site offers a deposit bonus, and some sites are offering a 100% deposit bonus up to $500 right now. You deposit $500, you get $1000 in your account. Not a bad deal.
And do take this as a lesson. Get yourself a bank account and some insurance. Geeze. This post should never have been made. P.S. Since you don't have renters insurance or a bank account, I assume that means you don't have health insurance or dental insurance either. I suggest you get these too, since one little accident will cost you a lot more in medical bills than what was stolen out of your apartment. |

Re: Tips on starting all over
Sell weed. You can buy a pound wholesale (at a good price) for between $2500-$3000. Sold by $20 gram you would gross about $9000. Even if you have to sell $50 eighths you would still be able to sell the whole pound for like 6 grand. Plus selling weed is not really that dangerous compared to selling coke or breaking in to OTHER people's houses. And you are young enough where you could establish a clientele pretty quickly. Just a thought.
