I don't want to spend over $500,000.

Come to Vegas! You can still pick up a nice $3,000 sq. ft. house for less than $500k. The weather isn't as nice as San Diego, but it is sunny and there is PLENTY of poker.

- Traffic is fun, it gives you time to listen to the radio.

- Inheriting several houses is much better than buying them. You are 24 and have a wife AND a big ass salary? I am 23 and in my sixth year of undergraduate college and dating a 19 year old sorority girl, although thats not really such a good thing, I think I would rather have a wife and a big salary.

- The people being good looking will always be an issue for me I think, as a personal trainer and someone who spends too much time in the gym I like the sights, even if I am in a relationship.

- Vegas is closer to SD than Denver (I think, but I am too lazy to google up a map right now).

- Beautiful majestic Tijuana is right next door, allowing for hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants to illegally sneak in to California and San Diego and spend billions of state dollars on health care and other crap that they should not get because they shouldnt be here anyway. Except for my gardener, I need him.

- I live a couple miles east of the 5, so the beach is pretty close

- You definitely can't fade the weather here though, one season is all I need. You never have to "pull out the winter clothes" or worry thats its gonna be too cold. Plus Lake Arrowhead is two hours away if I want to look at snow, which is fun to look at, but not so fun to drive in and live in.

- The Padres are a vastly superior team to the Rockies

- The Chargers (while technically tied with the Broncos for first place) are a vastly superior team to them.

I really fell in love with the place. One thing I noticed was that the people there in general were very friendly and somewhat intelligent. I remember struggling trying to surf (we don't exactly have beaches in Louisiana) and a guy gave me some pointers on what I was doing wrong. Oh and the women there are fine.

Also from what I gather, San Diego is essentially a research mecca.

I also liked the weather. We have had several storm super-cells develop here in central Louisiana in the past 24 hours. I went to a coffee shop and the Cashier said 'it's muggy out isn't it'. I saw a barometer and it said 22%. I told him I was from Louisiana and I can't remember it being that low. Supposedly I have no accent now which makes me extremely happy ( although I hear Cali women love the southern accent, maybe if i use my fake cajun accent it'll be ok).

My dad's brother and sister live out there so I've heard the warnings of cost of living. But They have also told me about the relatively high quality of living out there.

Also my choices for moving are slightly limited to San Jose, San Diego, or somewhere in Texas.

I guess I am in a very different boat than you are right now. Sorry about the slight thread hijack.

One question though. I keep reading about San Diego having financial difficulties. What will this mean for me? Is there a large Cost of Living difference between living in San Diego vs somewhere like Poway or San Clemente?

I wouldn't mind Vegas at all, but I've mentioned it a couple times to my wife and from the look I get I know that won't fly. I also don't get the impression that Vegas would be a good place to raise 3 small children.

The wifes family is in Boise and that is very affordable but no Poker in Idaho

The weather always being between 69 and 73 is not a plus in my book - it does get old and I do like to have more than one season. Also, that's only if you're within a short range of the beach anyway - anything affordable gets quite hot in the summer time and it just snowed in the area last week.

So, which would you rather have? It sounds like you're not a big fan of either.

I suspect you looked at a hygrometer, not a barometer.

San Diego is a great city depending on what you want out of it. If you are looking to start a career or start a family it probably is not the best place to do either. It is very expensive here, not only the price of real estate but also gas prices and the fact that there really isn't a good transit system like most major cities have so not having a car isn't an option.

The poker in San Diego is pretty good in my opinion. Plenty of places to go in all different directions depending on what you are looking for. I haven't played much in a few months but prior to that I probably played 4-5 times a month in the various casinos and card rooms throughout the city. They tend to spread higher limit games in the local card rooms rather than the major indian casinos.

The indian casinos are great for no limit and low limit. For instance Sycuan spreads several tables of 1/2 no limit as well as a table or two of 2/4 no limit on a daily basis and gets really busy during holidays and weekends. As far as limit if you want higher games they spread 10/20 - 20/40 on a regular basis at a card room called The Village Club in Chula Vista which is a little south of the downtown area. They also have one table of 1/3 no limit.

I was pretty new to the card room scene since I spent most of my time playing 1/2 and 2/4 no limit but if you want high action its really the only place to go. Oceans Eleven in Oceanside also spreads high limit games and I believe they have a pretty good no limit game there but I have never gone to it.

Poway, while being technically its own city, is in San Diego. San Clemente on the other hand is a good distance, close to Orange County (if not IN Orange County).
