Default Poker chips

I need to buy a nice set of poker chips for a christmas present. Im looking to buy 500-1000 chips of high quality, either clay or very nice non-clay chips. I'm looking specifically for simple design, Red, Green, Black and Purple chips to denote 5, 25,100, and 500 respectively.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to which site would offer quality and a good deal? Possibly a speceific set that you may have purchased and recomend or discourage.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

how much are you going to spend? Actual CHIPCO chips are about $1 each. You can get nice composite chips for $0.11 each. check out pokerchipreviews.com

Looking to spend about 350 case included. So I cant get Chipco, but I dont have my heart set on clay anyways. Just looking for good quality and feel. I looked on ebay, but there is just too much I dont know. People advertise "clay chips" but the price is so low it makes me skeptical.

First things first, I recommend buying samples of any chip you're considering.

For $465 you can get 500 chipco chips and a case from apachepokerchips.com The 300 chip set is $290. I'm considering buying some of these, either the "apache casino" or the "chipco classic" print.

One slight (ever so slight) step down in feel/playability of the chips are the nevadajacks.com chips. I just got samples of these and the're nice. The graphic is a little hokey but they feel like CHIPCOs. 500 chips and a case is $350 (matches the budget, might be a sign).

If you want 1000 chips, I'm also considering a budget chip from wedoitallvegas.com that is billed as "10 gram faux clay chip". These got a great review on pokerchipreviews.com. You have to buy in increments of 50 and they do have a "chip set" option that basically looks like you get a small discount on the case. I'm considering these chips because for about $300 I can have 1000 chips that have been hotstamped on one side with a denomiation and have a hotstamp of my custom logo on the other side. I'm waiting for the samples of these chips.

If you want the classiest chips available, get the CHIPCO set for $470. If you want a custom logo like I'm thinking about, then you'll need to step down in chip quality. Personally, I'm leaning more toward a 1000 chip set in the "10g faux clay" because of the inexpensive customization and sheer size of the chip set. Here is the breakdown I would use for my game where we play .25/.50 (rarely) to 2/4 games, some NL, usually playing 1/2.

$00.25 - 200
$01.00 - 400
$05.00 - 300
$25.00 - 100

1000 chips with a face value of $4,450. Even if I can ever talk 10 people into playing a $200 buy in NL game, each player could still reload once.

I have a set of spotted clay chips from pokerchips.com that make a great impression. You can pick the color of chips and a spot color for each one, for 0.50 each. An aluminum 700 case is $75. For your $350 you can get 550 chips and a case.

The problem is that they are slow on orders, and you are looking at Christmas 30 days away. My experience was for chips with a custom inlay, but still, you will want to be careful.

A user named X-Files recently got a set of this type. You may want to send a private message and ask about how long it took for the order.

If you want to get these chips, check out 5stardeal. Right now they are .06/chip. I picked up 1000 for $60 (plus 20 shipping though). You don't have to buy them in 50 increments either.

They aren't bad for such an inexpensive chip.

I went with these while I save up for my custom astronomy chips!

arrrrgh! I just got email back from wedoitallvegas and they won't/can't hotstamp the "10g faux clay dice" chips.

That sucks. I also saw them on 5stardeal and thought that they just wouldn't hotstamp them because of an agreement with wedoitallvegas.

Very dissapointed.

so the're at least acceptable? are the centers flush with the rim of the chip or are they indented a little so that you could put some of the "custom chip stickers" on them?

I think they are acceptable (especially compared to a .20-.30 chip). The center is flush. I don't believe you could use a sticker on these anyway, as they are textured.

The negatives I see about these are

-a bit plain
-injection spot
