RULES QUESTION
IN a satellite here in Michigan, I just busted out on a stupid call, but enough whining, boring background. I (2nd player) called an all in bet from 1st player, 3rd player moved all in over the top of me. He counted out and dealer and players confirmed 4200 in chips, which left me with 375 dollars or so i thought. After the hand was shown by all players, player 1 won the hand , player 3 had 2nd best and i lost. The dealer gave the main stack to player 1, and then declared the pot was short by 400 dollars and i owed player 3 the rest of my chips. i admantly disagreed with this as i was TOLD that i owed 1450 more when i put my chips in . The tournament director came up and said nope you (me) owe the rest of your chips to player 3. That's GOT to be wrong!!!!! Does anyone know where i can check the rules on this?? THanks in advance

Re: RULES QUESTION
You need to be more clear, Claud.
How much did player 1 bet? How much did you have when you said "I call"? And how much of it was already in the pot, and how much was in your stack? |

And how much of it was already in the pot, and how much was in your stack? player 1 went all in with 2750 i called player 3 went all in with what was (by dealer and player) said to be 4200 was told i needed 1450 to call, and that's what i did i had 4575 before player 1 went all in probably had 8200 pre betting |

Re: RULES QUESTION
Your explanation was not entirely clear, but from what I can tell the dealer mistakenly told you that the amount you had to call was less than it in fact was. Robert's Rules of Poker says:
"7. If a call is short due to a counting error, the amount must be corrected, even if the bettor has shown down a superior hand." I think this is pretty harsh when you were relying on the dealer's count, but to allow you to keep the extra chips, after the cards have been dealt and you lost, could be unfair to the other player. |
