i recently got one of these sets as a gift, the chips are fantastic. my whites dont have the blue stripe that has been mentioned, so they can be easily distinguished. the case is kinda cheap, however, one of my latches has busted already, and the handle and fittings are plastic. I'm building myself a nice walnut box to hold them, though.
the set was 60$ but the price has gone up too 80$ wtf? that's still only like 16c a chip though. |

I did some sleuthing today at Costco in San Francisco in lieu of buying a new set. There were two different sets for sale--one was on display and one was in a yellow box. Both had 500 chips, but neither is the same as the set that can be found online 650/$99.
So here's the scoop: After breaking into the display model ("The Deluxe ???" set in the greenbox), I played w/ the chips and they are great! They don't slip and slide like most of chips available for sale, so they stack very well. They also feel great and sound good--my 3 most important criteria. I did notice the problem others have mentioned--that the white/blue chips look similar. A new shipment of 40 are arriving tomorrow. I'm buying b/c they wouldn't sell me the display model (plexiglass was bolted onto the open case). There was no dealer button, only cards and dice. The chips in the yellow box sucked. After tearing thru the cellophane, opening the box, the styrofoam, and more cellophane I could feel the outside of the chips...too slick! Hope that helps. Any suggestion for felting a dining room table? |

I'm leaning towards the Costco chips for the drastic price difference. BTW, what was the price of the 500-chip set? Was it $99 too? [ QUOTE ] Any suggestion for felting a dining room table? [/ QUOTE ] I got mine from Poker Cats. I originally bought the oval cover but when it didn't fit, they offered to take it back and make me a custom one for no extra charge. It took a few weeks, but they came through. I haven't played on it yet (tonight will be its maiden voyage) but I'm very happy with it, both appearance and feel-wise. |

The good set ("Deluxe...") in the green box 11.5grams was $60 (and so was the crappy 11.5g set in the yellow box). 12 cents a chip seems like a great deal, ya? I'm pretty sure this good set are the same chips discussed a couple posts back comparing them to "real" chips
I was worried that the chips would get slippier after getting handled for a couple minutes, so I rubbed a couple chips together and worked in some nose grease. They didn't have the same intense gritty hold that they did when I opened the package, but they were just fine. Definitely still way better than the plasticky, slick ones my friend got for signing up w/ an online site--they don't stack high enough for long enough . |
