Bankroll goals
I was wondering how long people go without spending any of their winnings. I have been playing for 14 months with an initial buy-in of $50. I have had a steady profit stream avg. of $1k per month as I have moved from 1/2 to 3/6 and have not spent any of my winnings.
I have set up a separate savings account that I periodically transfer my excess bankroll to. My first expenditure will be for income taxes for 2004. My wife asked me why I don't spend any winnings and I told her that I am saving it for a big purchase. When I first started my goal was a plasma TV in 1 year. Now my goal (dream?) is a Corvette in 5 years. Psychologically, having a long term goal and never skimming my winnings for other small stuff makes me stay focused and hopefully play better. Do you guys save for big purchases or spend your $ as needed? |

Re: Bankroll goals
Depends. I had been able to save some of my meager winnings for a while while i had a summer job. In july I was let go because of bad management hiring me in the first place, but had to go to school in 6 weeks so just used my poker money and the money I was making almost nightly at my home game or the local Cardroom. I wouldnt call myself a pro since it was for such a short time and at low limits. It was enough however to provide a college kid with only a cell phone bill to pay enough money for 6 or 8 weeks.

Do you guys save for big purchases or spend your $ as needed? [/ QUOTE ] I am going to Cancun in December, financed by the poker roll. If my hobby could pay for a vacation every year that would be fine by me. Are you really making $1k/month? And what is a Michigan fan doing in Iowa? |

Re: Bankroll goals
if you're interested in maximizing your earn at this poker thing then you should keep most if it in your roll so you can play higher limits. that's what's most important for me. unfortuantely i have to withdraw for school/rent every now and then.

Re: Bankroll goals
So you have 14K bankroll at 3/6??? If I were you, I wouldn't be as concerned with purchases as I am with the amount of money I'm losing by not transitioning to 5/10 and ultimately 10/20.

Re: Bankroll goals
My BR is over 15K. I 3 table about 40 hours a month and I am clearing a bonus 99% of the time going from site to site, so a lot of my BR came from bonuses.
I was born in Michigan, but now live in Iowa City. |

Re: Bankroll goals
I just moved to 3/6 about 2 months ago, and I have been mixing in 1 table of 5/10 recently. I am in no hurry to move up. I think I will be full time 5/10 in a few months, 10/20 and beyond seems like a long way away.
I am comfortable making what I make at my current limits. |

Re: Bankroll goals
In the spring I'll buy a motorcycle with my winnings, then continue saving for things like vacations, home improvements, etc...
I haven't spent any of my bankroll. However, I do spend the rakeback I get from my affiliate every month. |
