5 Simple Rules for NL Hold\'em Tourney @ home?
Guys at my monthy home game decided they want to play a hold'em tourney this week instead of the usual tic-tac-toe/pinapple. I told them I'm happy to run a sit-n-go.
This is a very friendly game, but most of these guys don't have experience with No-limit or SNG tourney's. I'll have a list of the blind structure (it'll basically double every 10 mins.) but also wanted to give them a few basic rules (5 max) before we start. Thoughts on what you'd say?? -- Again, it's a friendly game, but want to give these guys a taste of what a brick-n-mortar tourney is like. 1) Keep your chips on table at all times 2) Oversized chip is call before flop (unless 'raise' called). After flop -it's the bet. 3) If you're gonna raise, call 'raise' AND amount 4) raise must be at least double last bet 5) turnover your cards if one/more player is 'all-in' (unless there is action on side). |

Re: 5 Simple Rules for NL Hold\'em Tourney @ home?
You want to give them only 5 rules?!?!
Check out this article from my site which was sent to me by a poster on this forum a few months ago.... How to set up and run a SNG tournament I say, if you're going to play, play it correctly. Giving them a few rules to start off with is ok but you need to enforce rules as the game is running - or they will never learn the game. Ali |

try 30 minutes a round. 10 minutes without a dealer is like 3 hands.

Re: 5 Simple Rules for NL Hold\'em Tourney @ home?
That's a nice set of rules. Thanks. We had a problem at my last tourney of two guys wanting to split a pot without revealing thier hole cards. It looks as if that is legal if the players declare they are 'playing the board'? I'm not too sure that is right. Seems two players can still collude in that situation. Anyway, thanks. Re: 5 Simple Rules for NL Hold\'em Tourney @ home?
Yep. 10 minutes is not enough... hell, maybe even an hour.
At my game, the quality of play is so poor that we just increase the blinds whenever someone is knocked out. No joke: if 6 people start with 1300 and the blinds are 10/20, someone is gone in 45 minutes. And that's only maybe 12 to 15 hands tops. I'm hoping this will change the more we play. It's a low stakes friendly game, so I feel ashamed of my advantage from playing online all the time. |
