Re: Was this correct to fold here
IMO, I don't think you can put MP2 on a narrow range of hands. The board here has all kinds of draws, so MP2 would be correct to play many hands fast. FWIW, I would raise all-in with trips or the low straight in his position 100% of the time with this board. I might slowplay the higher straight, depending on whether I thought you would call my raise.
In terms of whether to call the raise, I do think that there is enough chance that you are up against an overpair, draw, or a pair + draw hand that you should call this one. Dave S |

Re: Was this correct to fold here
There are many, many non-set, non-67 hands he could have. There's only 5 ways for him to have a set, but there are 11 A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]x[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] combinations he could have (I hate semi-bluffing, but even I would probably push with two-overs, a gutshot, and flush draw). There's 16 ways to have 67, and 16 ways to have A2, but there are 54 ways to have an overpair. But that's not all - there's also few other 12-out draws he could have, like 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] and depending on the opponent, it's possible he might even play a naked flush draw like this (thinking his overcards might also be outs).

Re: Thoughts from the other side
Too funny. By the time I got half way through the post I was thinking to myself the hand being described was very similar to a hand I played last night in a SNG. I checked the posters name and realized I was MP2.
So here is my story. I did have A 5. I was also floundering. To that point I had been dealt only one playable hand and it was crushed. I was getting impatient and felt like I needed to make something happen. I did feel like hero had me beat, but I thought the coordinated board might be scary to him as well. So, I decided to go with the all-in semi bluff and either take down the pot right there and get some mo going or get put out of my misery. Of course if I would have known I was up against a 2+2er, I probably would have folded out of respect. I went to bed happy that I did get a second place out of it. But now that it has come back at me, I realize my emotions played a part in my decision making. I have to deal with that. Reality is I had zero patience and it almost cost me. |
