Default Getting to Vegas?

I am looking to plan a trip to Vegas sometime during the summer and am interested in departing from Memphis Airport and staying about a ten to fourteen days. Of course the main purpose of my journey will be to play poker. I was just looking for advice on the cheapest way to fly and stay in Vegas. I know alot of you Vegas guys should have some great advice. Also others who have made the journey several times.

Thanks,
Fairless

You may be able to get a significantly cheaper airfare by driving to little rock and flying on Southwest. There used to be a shuttle service ("The Bette Bus") that would drive you between little rock and memphis for cheap but I think they went out of business.

Along these lines, I believe Southwest fares from Nashville to Vegas are even cheaper than from Little Rock.

Staying ideas depend on what rooms you plan on playing in, if you will have a car, how far you are willing to walk, etc.
See Cheapo Vegas for good infomation about hotels.

Lots of good ideas in this travel to Vegas thread

Awesome! The airfare is the least of your worries.

Would you rent a car? What about public transportation?
Thinking about staying downtown but would like to visit the strip of course.

I too would like to take a cheap trip of an extended period. My problem is that all the expenses would be comming out of my bankroll.

Therefore I would like to keep EVERTHING (food, transportation, room ect) as cheap as possible. I can get a cheap flight there, so this isnt really a worry (and the wife might even invest in the flight for me).
Normally the flamingo will also give me a good deal on a room, but thier good deal is like $90 a night (weekend). Thats too much to spend when I dont plan to stay there but for sleep (its perfect with the wife and friends, but not for business...poker).

I just got back from there, and the shuttle is still down, so would renting a car be better than taxis for like a week of traveling back and forth from a cheap off strip hotel/casino?, and unless im eating with comps, food is outrageous (good, but expensive). so what are some other Ideas around this?

Thanks

Fireman

Fireman,

Thats exactly my scenario. I have never been to Vegas but have played lots of casino poker here in Mississippi. I am looking to go during the 2005 WSOP to possibly play in a few satellites and maybe a $1500 tournament. I am also looking to play alot of live poker in the $2/5 no-limit range to $20/40 limit. I am a single guy and will probably be making the trip alone and am looking for something cheap and convienent as far as distance to and from the casinos. Just looking for cheap rates and nice poker vacation as most of the travel expenses will come from my poker bankroll. Maybe we can get some input from some of the more Vegas regulars.

Checked this rate at the Gold Coast Casino on Expedia.

14 Days $986.82

I believe this is nearby the Rio (home of 2005 WSOP)

This seems a little expensive. However this is one of the cheaper rates that I could find. Ideally something in the $500-$650 range would be nice

Try the Extended Stay America on Valley View. Easy walk to Rio.

I recommend getting a rental car for this long of trip. You can usually pick one up cheap - I found one for $99/week when I was there in September.

You should be able to find some cheap rates downtown. I've had good luck finding cheap rates on casinos internet sites, so be sure to check those.
