Default best way to improve WPT TV coverage

Does anyone else find Vince Van Patton annoying...in re: his commentary during WPT broadcasts.
Also, how can WPT coverage claim to have the "richest payouts" in poker tournament history" when the WSOP main event paid what it did this year?

The easiest way to improve a TV coverage of Poker is to add Howard Lederer as analyst.

So many events were held and taped before WSOP 04. At the time he spoke, he told the truth.

I totally agree with the Lederer quote. But how do you get him to cover the biggest tournaments in the world when he can make a million bucks by playing in them? You don't have that problem with Vince Van Patten, or Norman Chad, for that matter.

The audio commentary is laid down well after the tournament is over. They could do it on his timetable.

The biggest problem would be Howard doing commentary in a tournament he played in. ESPN likes the illusion of the commentary being done in real-time, so they wouldn't want a high-profile player on their broadcast.

This reminds me of the premier episode of the 2003 WSOP. In a hand between Scotty Nguyen and Robert Varkonyi, you could see Norman Chad sitting in the gallery behind Nguyen while he was talking on the broadcast

I think in general you can get 1 "Name" player to stick around and do commentary on the final table.

This would work for all but the Main Event, but as day 1 is now in 3 parts, you could do it for that too. Then just as an early loser to stick around, and get paid to do commentary.

one minor thing:
show winnning percentages (ala ESPN) for each player's hand

More importantly, get less monotonous commentating (although I admit sometimes VVP is funny, most of the time it is lame) -- every episode sounds the same from commentary point of view.

Oh, you mean they don't just use the same tape loop for each episode?
