Your post seems to have a sarcastic bitter tone to it...yet your not even American...

[/ QUOTE ]

Wow you can detect my sarcasm through the sublety of a single. I must be good.

I won't answer if it was meant that way, or if I was serious.

But I will answer your question by saying I am a citizen of the *World*. That said, you see how it actually makes no difference to my comment?

globalvote results

[/ QUOTE ]

Wow at them results Lori. Not that I'm suprised. That's all we here that "the rest of the world wants the one that isn't Bush".

As an addendum, even though it an *absolute miniscule* number in that small poll, I find it kinda ironic that the only place Bush almost wins is the Middle East.

I've heard it said a number of times, and I can quite believe it, that Bin Laden and his ilk will be pulling for Bush...

Even subtracting the 30% or so German vote, they are still remarkable.

I don't mind how you answer really, or how you feel about our president. I just think that it's funny (and irratating, but it's a lot easier to take now that Bush has won) that you feel the need to try and make fun of Bush in a celebratory post about the election that is just finishing up.

It's part of our culture Namkills, Brits literally make fun of everyone, including all our own leaders no matter which persuasion we are.

A lot of us remember shows like spitting image (that had no political bias in particular), that just ripped everybody apart.

I think it's a cultural difference that Americans often miss.

A recent BBC or NPR piece found the same thing with valid polls. Iran, in particular, favors Bush. It has a lot in common with the red states when you consider the role of religion in society.

Celebratory? Make Fun?

Let me summarise the first posts of the thread.

Pro-Busher(?) posts a picture of Bush (which perhaps casts him in a good light).
Anti-Busher posts a picture of Bush (which perhaps doesn't cast him in a good light).
I ask a question, using the last picture. Perhaps a rhetorical question. But a question nonetheless.

Whether I was trying to cast fun I'll leave you decide. Maybe I was trying to make a serious point even if I was.
I could as just as easily said something like "Great. Another 4 years of that chimp-faced warmonger. Let's hope the world lasts that long".

Which would you prefer?

I'm not really an anti-Busher... I guess I am... I would rather Kerry be the next President.

I am trying to have intelligent discourse here and not stoop to that reductionist level of "Bush is dumb/Kerry is a flip flopper who wont protect us," but I found that one photo, and thought it was just too funny, and I went there. Sorry, if I offended anyone or became "that guy."

Absolutely 1000% correct.
The British sneer at politics in large numbers. We are disenfranchised with the system.

My disagreement with the political system can pretty much be summed up as "the problem with politics is no matter who you vote for a politican always gets in".

Americans seem to fall heavily one way or the other. And stay that way.
Britains seem to fall heavily in the middle. And if they lean one way or the other it is usually short term, and in favour of "get rid of that motherfucker".

I would like all elections to have a "none of the above" option by default.

Democracy. You have to love it.

You give me two choices, neither of whom I want.

It's like asking a man, "what would you rather I do, break one of your legs, or break one of your arms?".

That is the description I've been groping for the whole of this week.
