Well as much as I hate to do/say it, i've stopped playing NL ring games for the time being.
I play poker for money, and right now I've realized I've got the capability to start making $50/hr+ with a smaller bankroll/skill/variance than playing NL ring games. I've never been quite comfortable with making the wrong decision and then losing an entire stack, something that I've done a lot with lately. In SNGs I can only lose the buy in, and most of the situations that occur are rather mechanical compared to what I'd see in a ring game, at least in my opinion. I'll be popping in occasionally and you'll probably be able to find me in some ring games here and there, but for the most part we will just see each other in other parts of the forums. Thanks to everyone for all your help. -Andrew B. Sponger15SB |

Sponger,
keep in mind that only in an NL/PL-ring game will there be possibilities for the deepest money relative to blinds (implied odds, etc.).....while that is what makes NL so great, it is also what makes it a "people" game - a game that requires observations, reads, "feel", table image, psychology, etc. (along with all the math stuff).....many people, myself included, don't feel all that comfortable playing games that require decisions like that over an internet connection in front of a computer screen.....limit games - as well as NL tournament structures (where money is short relative to blinds) - offer much more "protection" and are (as you said) more mechanical......there's nothing wrong with that.....it might have nothing to do with your skills as an NL player.....one thing you could consider is to buy-in short at bigger online NL ring games....good luck with the SnG's...... |

Anyone want to tell me what an SnG is?
(newb!) EDIT1: .... (reading through the rest of the post: "sit and go"... makes sense). I just know that you also buy into a ring game too, right? EDIT 2: To the people who've already answered me, thanks. EDIT 3 (afterthought): Just think, if I'd made each of these edits a separate post, I'd be one step closer to poobah. |

Hi David,
SNG = Sit aNd Go 10 of you pay $10+1/$20+2 etc House gets the + part. Everything else in a pot split 50/30/20 between 1st/2nd/3rd you all get an amount of starting chips and blinds escalate after an amount of time/number of hands |

interesting... I did just the opposite. I found that the rapid raising of blinds too often led to luck taking precedence over skill. I do much better at ring games. I'll concede that it could very well just be a different skill, and that the SnG skill is one I don't posess.

It's easier to skin a fish in a NL ring game.
