1600 x 1200 problem

Hi all,
When setting the resolution to 1600 x 1200 the screen gets a drift to the left and on the right side appears a black bar about 3cm in width. Since I'm using a 17" monitor those 3cm are causing an overlap, when fourtabling. Is there anything I can do, to get rid of this bar?
Any help greatly appreciated.

If you have a decent monitor you should have settings to stretch up width and height of viewable image and move it left or right up or down.
